The Dark Knight (2008) Reaction

Comments

Was 8 when I saw this movie in theaters, loved it & wasn’t scared at all until like the last scene, Harvey w Gordon’s family freaked me out for whatever reason. That was 16 years ago & have seen this trilogy dozens of times since, time flies Funny you mention Batman’s not a super soldier, I take batman w not even much prep time in a 1v2 vs cap America & the winter soldier programmed. Think he could very very very easily kill both of them without taking much if any damage. Batman doesn’t kill? Ok I think he could easily incapacitate them both & then in prison them, whether they break out 100x like joker? I don’t think so, he could design a cell they couldn’t break out of & aren’t nearly as clever as joker for example I love cap & Bucky but just being strong, durable & healing fast doesn’t mean much of anything in a fight against batman w a little prep time. 18:12 yeah that’s the hulk, that should tell you right there you need to rewatch the mcu & Rachel is smoking crack & dick this movie, don’t know what fantasy land she’s living in. But shit I’d say she’s been tripping since the first movie. Harsh but not even sad to see her go, batman deserves way better. She doesn’t love bruce unconditionally that’s for sure, she literally will only love him conditionally, that he isn’t batman. That’s not real love, or at least that’s not healthy marriage level love. Batman / Bruce is a psycho too no doubt, just a toxic relationship for lack of a better term. Can’t wait to see you guys reaction to dark knight rises

Great comment! ❣️

I actually turn it WAYYY up to hear, then need them to turn their mic down or they're just yelling in my ear overstimulating me for the day 😅.

Watched it: "Chaosh ishuh laddah" y'all. LF v Varys showdown 😅😅😅😅. But look up absurdist mentality, Jokers true representation is more of that philosophy, with shades of apathetic nihilism. And joker literally has like 5 backstories, that's the joke 🤣 🤣 🤣🤷🏾‍♀️. Harvey Dent/Two-Face is an underrated villain imo (as well as his origin story in this film)! Him in the hospital is my fav of the trilogy besides the final scene in the next film. Harvey was a utilitarian idealist whose means just turned from one to another (not his moral compass). His ends were always to root out any and all corruption at any cost, the means just went from within the system to without (rules v 50/50 chaosh). A lesson he unfortunately took from Joker. Y'all GOTTA watch BTAS & Gotham at some point🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾😁😁😁😁 (It expands on and fleshes out so much on your theories about the Gotham Universe). How could someone become as uncorruptible as Batman, what would they have to go through? Well I've been through some shit, but watching Batman was literally my comfort show for that, as a kid I understood the messages they were trying to convey about societies, communities, human behavior and functioning, and it significantly impacted the values I carry. Love these movies, still love the og anthology above all and TAS! Can't wait for the next (my fav)!

Hey guys great reaction. Really looking forward to Dark Knight Rises (Arguably not as good as this one, but my personal favorite of the trilogy). One point of clarification, Morgan Freeman is not leaving Wayne Enterprises. He told Bruce he would not be there while the machine existed and Bruce told him to enter his name into the computer when he was done. After he typed in his name, the machine started sparking and shut down. Bruce rigged it to destroy itself when Lucius was done. Once Lucias saw it was destroyed, the ethical dilemma was no longer an issue and he did not need to quit.

I put on my seatbelt after Gordons final narration

I still remember watching this in theatres when I was a kid. One of my favourite movies ever and honestly what gave me my love for superheroes. R.I.P Heath, one of my idols and an aussie legend 🙏

Jack Ross

Heath Ledger... one of our Australian legends. The guy killed it acting the joker. He spent weeks/months isolating himself in a motel to get ready for this role to understand the Joker's way and become the Joker. Staring at the wall and laughing at himself. Literally locking himself up and living like the Joker so that when the camera's were on he could just be 'himself. Unfortunately, he didn't live to see the final cut and died 6 months before it was released. His family had to accept his awards on his behalf. RIP you Aussie b*st*rd. You did the country proud.

Hitmon

turn up the movie or give me a copy i can sync to, thanks =)

For fook's sake it's pronounced The Dark "ni-git"

You're right in a sense when you say Batman needs Joker and vice versa. Joker pushes Batman to the limit and makes him stronger when it comes to not breaking his one rule of not killing. Joker's main goal is to prove that everyone's just as crazy and corrupt as he is. So, Joker needs Batman because he's Joker's greatest challenge. Batman is the one person who Joker can't seem to crack. Joker continually pushes the envelope to see how far he's able to go to get Batman to lose it and break his one and only rule.

"Bruce Wayne. Er... for foook's sake.. The Dark Knight"

oh i wasn't mentioning the Ayer Cut although i wished it did came out XD I was talking about the version with 13 additional minutes of scenes mostly depicting harley's backstory. Its literally Suicide Squad Extended Cut

Kevin Seet

While there was an original “Ayer Cut” of the Suicide Squad that is reportedly, markedly different from the theatrical version, that cut has never been released and is, therefor, unavailable for consumption. That being said, yes…Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition is the only way to go. However, if they watch the entire DCEU in release order, and forgo the theatrical release of Justice League in favor of the Snyder Cut, it could be extremely confusing because it contradicts and ignores canon from the other movies. The DCEU was such a sh*t-show 😆. Very much looking forward to the James Gunn-verse 🥰

That scene where Joker slaps the detonator after the explosion of the hospital where it stalls out was actually the first and only take, and improvised by Ledger…Nolan almost exclusively uses practical effects over CGI and that building was rigged to actually blow. When it did not immediately go off as initially planned, instead of breaking character and ruining the take, Ledger continued on with the scene, and it eventually went off as it was supposed to. He completely rescued the take with his method acting. And Maggie Gyllenhaal is indeed Jake’s sister, lol. Also, Lucius didn’t resign. He said as long as that machine was at Wayne Enterprises, he wouldn’t be. When he entered his name once finished, the machine and processors self-destructed. Which is why he was smiling. Bruce used it to find the Joker and then programmed it to destroy itself when Lucious typed in his name. So, Fox remains the CEO. As far as the Joker’s conflicting scar stories, in the comics, the Joker never had an official, recognized origin. Different comic lines had come up with different explanations, one of the most famous being the graphic novel “The Killing Joke” which portrayed the character as a failed comedian who is coerced into helping the mob with a crime and ends up falling into a vat of chemicals, disfiguring himself and going insane in the process, thus becoming the Joker (both the 1989 Batman film and the 2019 film Joker adapt elements from that storyline). Nolan tried to honor the nature of the character’s mysterious origins by having Ledger’s version tell different stories about getting his scars. And why he had the Joker already established at the start of the movie instead of showing an origin story in the film for him as well. But I loved the reaction, as always guys…And loved how you kept echoing “chaos” throughout, because each entry in the Dark Knight trilogy has a one-word, simple theme: Batman Begins - Fear The Dark Knight - Chaos The Dark Knight Rises - Pain 😉 Looking forward to your final reaction of the trilogy 😁🥰

Zodiac is directed by David Fincher (Alien 3, Se7en, Fight Club, The Social Network, Gone Girl…and so on and so forth…) 😉

Once you are done with Nolan's trilogy, you would realise that Alfred's advices to Bruce were always correct. And Bruce always listens to his advices. As for my take on what the Joker's motives are, I believe they were exactly what Alfred had mentioned in his story about the thief in Borneo where the thief wanted to watch the whole world burn. Joker wanted to prove that every men can be corruptible and wanted to prove Batman and everyone's hope that people can be purely good. That is why chaos and anarchy were the Joker's weapon. As for whether Robin will be suitable in Nolan's trilogy? I would highly doubt so as it will be even more confusing since Robin's mentaility is totally different from Bruce's principles. Nolan has also stated he had zero plans to include Robin into his trilogy as that will take away a lot of realism from his story. However, do take note on a easter egg on the third film as a fan service to all Batman fans haha.

Kevin Seet

Oh you can watch Joaquin Phoenix's Joker film to get a sense of how Joker's origin comes to be, It IS a seperate universe but it gives an idea on how Joker became the Joker. Other modern Nolan films that you may wanna catch are The Prestige (Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as competing magicians), Inception (Masterpiece with Leo Dicaprio), Dunkirk (Time-boggling war film), Tenet (not really a good film as its too confusing) and Oppenheimer (a great historical biographical film). Lastly, please watch The Wolf of Wall Street by Martin Scorsese PLEASE! I GUARANTEE y'all would be laughing your butt off at this masterpiece as well.

Kevin Seet

On another note...I do recommend that when you begin with the DCEU, please remember to watch the extended cuts of any in those series. ie Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad and the Justice League Snyder Cut. Please avoid those regular versions cause 1. It's more enjoyable than the regular ones 2. The extended cuts makes more sense than the regular ones without studio inteferences and 3. If you watch both versions it will spoil your experience for first time watching. Really enjoyed watching Nolan's Batman Trilogy with y'all even though I've watched it more than 10 times! Keep it up and I can't wait to see y'all reaction to the third one and also the DCEU!

Kevin Seet

Just a quick note to y'all..Nolan's batman trilogy is totally irrelevant from the DCEU so can start at any time..Nolan is just a producer to Man of Steel to just give them a idea on how to make Superman as grounded as his films...but i guess that failed XD cuz as long as you have fantastical powers, you can't be that grounded..

Kevin Seet

Yes

Eddie

Haven't watched this yet, but Rises is my fav of the trilogy. Heath is amazing, but as a whole I prefer the final. And Bane in general is a more nostalgic character than Joker for me. Love the concept of Joker as Batmans ultimate nemesis, but prefer Harley and others stories.

Lady Stoneheart (Uncat)

oh cool so it's like the Iron Man of the MCU, it starts a timeline or something?

Mr. October

Man of steel is the 1st movie after the Nolan Batman movies

Eddie

does it start there? let's go!

Mr. October

Definitely should start DCEU movies and start Man of Steel after Dark Knight Rises.

Eddie

I'm a Marvel Zombie, I don't really care for DC at all, but I must say this was one of the best superhero movies of all time. Christopher Nolan did a great job here, but some of his others...................uh, well.....................not so much. This and Wonder Woman were probably the two best of the DCU. Just for kicks, you should check out Green Lantern (Ryan Reynolds before Deadpool} it's terrible and Ryan makes fun of it in the Deadpool movie a lot.

DarrellWaller

As a 16 year old this movie was everything to me! And still is! This movie changed the film industry. First billion dollar comic book movie, first actor to win an Oscar for a comic book movie(Ledger) and when it was snubbed from A best picture nomination in 2009 the academy immediately changed its numbers from 5 to 10 nominees. Everything is subjective but to me this really is the best comic book movie ever and DC hasn’t been the same since. This movie also came out the same year as Ironman, just an insane movie year for us comic book fans. I hated the Heath Ledger casting in the moment but the second I seen the first trailer I knew I was dead wrong. Just an iconic performance from someone who was gone way too soon.

Airbud was her hardest watch?? Yall definitely need to check out "Marley and Me" you'll laugh and SOB lol

Im craving for winds of winter 👀

Monkey D. Tomy

You definitely don't want Nolan to direct every superhero film (you'll see why lol) but my favorite DC hero is Dick Grayson, hands down!! He's also the best Batman 😉
