Y'all are missing the point with the religious group. They're part of Cersei's plan to get rid of the Tyrells. She went to the high sparrow and convinced him to partner with her so she could immediately snitch on Ser Loras and Queen Margeary to get them locked up. Tywin's death made it possible because now that he's gone, she's literally taking advantage of her naive son to do whatever she wants. The religious group having authority seems random because it IS random. Cersei saw an opportunity to get rid of the Tyrells and immediately took it.

The only bad part about GOT reactions is that everybody always goes into it already expecting to not like the ending and sometimes it can affect how you think about certain things. But personally, I completely disagree that this is a point in the show that it starts to fall off. I mean season 6 is one of the best seasons in my opinion. I’m not even sayin that I think there’s a fall at all, but you can just tell that season 7 and 8 are paced differently which in turn causes issues that fans know could of been avoided. I’m sayin that very vague obviously bc I want you guys to form your own opinions when you get to that point. But the show will still 100% keep your attention all the way through.

I think this info is fine, maybe a bit spoilery if they want to read, but idky people can't just let book readers live lol.
Book readers are the og fans since the 90s and on, show viewers opinions are also valid, but imo there's room for both and these reactors will make their own decisions.

It helped me while watching the show to consider the differences, because that's how my mind works. I like to see the entire whole and all it's details and inner workings and how they work in tandem, especially with world building like this, and I can learn to appreciate both for what they are, and also in how one was adapted from the other.
I should remember that not everyone thinks this way or wants to know these details. It enhances the experience for me, but might sour it for others.
Above all I agree with what GRRM said "The show is the show, and the books are the books" (which again is not a dig, just straightforward commentary).
They seem like people who like context and detail, but I suppose maybe it might ruin it if they don't discover it all on their own accord.
I think many did not rewatch the series after S8 aired, but I'm enjoying rewatching and appreciating through the eyes of newbies with different perspectives, and part of me actually wants to say what's different so it *doesn't* spoil the appreciation of what the show is offering in comparison, but they seem to mostly think for themselves and won't come out the other side affected by our meager opinions, and I love that authenticy.

No one knows whether or not RR steered them in the direction they went, he was consulting on the show from the start. I think the last season was pretty damn good, and it had a logical conclusion. I think the negative reactions had more to do with discontent about how certain characters' roles played out, but watching now, there are clues to where it was heading as early as season 1. I just take it for what it is, and that is not how the books seem to be going, but who really knows? RR has yet to release any of HIS conclusion, so any speculation is just that, a guess. I'm pretty sure the Os will like how this plays out, just saying...

I agree. I've noticed on many "react" channels where book readers are totally hating & trashing the last few seasons. Those seasons were epic imo.

oh wow i agree! I have mentioned before I have re-watched seasons 5-8 many times! such great writing, connections, character arcs, action scenes are freakin amazing! many episodes are actually like watching a full blown movie! "peak watching" is a great way to describe it.

Firmly disagree with anyone claiming GOT is in decline at this stage. Seasons 3 - 7 are peak watching, and really only the last season is something I’d call subpar, but still entertaining.

I wish people would stop referring to the books, this is an adaptation, and it is NOT the books. It carries much of what was in the books, but honestly, RR made it too complex to do a film version and since he has YET to go as far as the series, comparisons going forward are fairly useless. For those who think S5 drags a bit, it certainly sets the table for all the mayhem the last three seasons gives us. I like how they keep trying to guess what's coming, I think that by the end of this season they will see how fruitless it is to speculate. I will say that this season does have the most disturbing (cringy) moments in the whole series.

The reason why you feel the story is a bit off since Season 5 is because, this is where from the show runners started deviating from the books and started writing their own story. But in the books as well Daenerys does marry Hizdahr zo Loraq. But the way that decision was made was through a totally different circumstance. She never fed any masters to her dragons.
Also with Sansa, she never went North or married Ramsay in the books. In the books Ramsay will marry a childhood friend of Sansa, thinking that she's Arya. Lannisters gave Boltons this girl they captured along with other Stark households when they arrested Ned. This girl is Jane Poole a childhood friend of Sansa. Lannisters gave her to Boltons saying that the girl is Arya. Ramsay marries her. Meanwhile Sansa is still in Vale with Little Finger.
Even the way Margaery and Loras getting arrested by the faith is in a different way in the books which makes more sense than the show runners are trying to forcefully implement a storyline.
Even Ser Barristan is not dead in the books and have a complete different story for him in Meereen. A fantastic story. You must read the books for those storylines.

Season 5 is when the fuckery begins, getting to the end of the book material. It's still overall good for a while tho, just my opinion. The High sparrow stuff is weak but there is still some major highlights to this season

George R. R. Martin (yes, after Tolkien, his idol; GoT is his ode & critique of LoTR) left the show last season due to creative differences, so some sense of change can be attributed to this, most notibly, as another mentioned, Sansa is not in Winterfell in the books. Ser Barristan is also not dead.
Again, when finished with the series, try the books, or at least look up the differences, there are quite many.
I love the TV series for what it is, it's still absolutely amazing television, don't be discouraged, there's a lot more amazement to come!

Go back a couple of episodes. King omen literally tells Cersei “you armed them”

I agree we are supposed to buy that Cersei somehow empowered them but it is a legit complaint to call it far fetched. I mean, did she ever actually "arm" them? From what I remember the most they showed was Cersei siding with them when they attacked the High Septon. And then, apparently, they felt emboldened and it was Tommen's weakness that allowed them to grab power.

Cersei found herself alone and vulnerable - no longer the Queen, no longer protected by Tywin, her last son and king under the influence of that “smirking whore” Margery…so she saw a chance to empower and manipulate the church into getting rid of her rivals. The Faith Militant storyline is good IMO, but the Dorne storyline…somehow yawn and cringe at the same time, lol.

It’s not a spoiler but in the books, it’s not Sansa that’s married to Ramsey it’s a fake version of Arya

The loss of Tywin created a power vacuum and the sparrows were in check when he was in charge cuz of the way he ran business. Cersei used them and brought them back to power. So instead of a little cult, now they are a cult with power like they once were in Westeros before Aegon conquered the seven kingdoms.

The non spoiler thing I want to point out for clarity is the Faceless Men aren't just paid assassins. When they say "a price must be paid" they mean more than gold. ...... "While the Faceless Men operate as assassins, they also follow strict religious practices that can lead them to rejecting commissions that clash with their tenets. They believe that their killings are tribute to the Many-Faced God."

Like many monarchical cultures, Dany will be Queen and her husband will be consort. It was so wonderful to spend five + hours with you on a Friday.

The high sparrow arc is one of the worst in the series imo. I hate it too. That being said, you have to remember….Cersie is backing them. She gave them power. She armed them. It didn’t come out of no where. They weren’t armed or powerful. She made them that way to get Loras and Margery. Hopefully that draws you back in, and keeps the realism of the show.
Cersie is basically running the kingdoms.
