Loving this new group of characters!

X-Men (2000) Reaction

I LOVE X-Men, they are my all time favorite comics! Glad they are finally joining the MCU! As for the Mutant Registration Act, I side with Magneto (surprise, I always side with the so called "villains..." The idea to force every mutant to register their names (and their address) and their powers for a world of humans who fear and hate them and are violent towards them is ridiculous! And as we see in this movie (as well as any context both historical and fiction), the mutants have much more valid reason to fear all humans than the humans have to fear all mutants.

You're right (this comment was a long time ago), but gay rights aren't "narrow" in that sense. It has expanded to be allegory for those as well in more recent years (if it wasn't originally the intent), because intersectionality is infused within all liberation and anti-oppression movement. The comment "have you tried not being a mutant" is direct reference to queer identity (which was what I was referring to). It's important they understand the allegory and references in all of the source material imo (and probably yours), whether they care/agree or not. Any true ally and proponent of liberty movements and class warfare will understand that no one is free until we all are, so if you're gay or an ally of gay rights, you'll be an ally for civil rights, disability rights .if you know what's good for ya. Many are LGBTQIA+ minority, and disabled at once ... so stating that representation allegory for gay rights is "narrowing" narrows my view at least (and my main point about Bobbys parents comment). (My commentary has been updated in later comments though, but they also just said recently they dgaf about "politics" so). 👍🏾

Close but no cigar. It's for Civil Rights which was the main point. People try to boil it down to gay rights but that is one piece of the entire civil rights movement. The main writers of Marvel were Jewish and saw some pretty gnarly things. They were also friends with Black Panthers and other civil rights activist groups in college or just socially. The X-Men were supposed to reflect those notions of acceptance. They're meant to include all of these ideas and not something so narrow as gay rights which was larger in the 80's and not the early 60's when X-Men was written.

Hey 👋 did you miss me

asia roberson

I knew she looked familiar from a Scream just didn't know where!

Mr. October

Sir Ian McKellen is always a win.

Mutant rights is an allegory for gay rights, according to the og source material. Misplaced fear, judging by supposed acts of few, etc.

Charissa Kay

The actress who plays rogue was in scream 4 in the beginning ♥️

Gio Bellisario

Mr. October you got it right, Professor X is inspired by MLK while Magneto is Malcolm X. X-Men is on of my all time fav Marvel team! In the comics they share the universe as The Avengers. But Marvel sold the film rights to Fox, so that’s why there seperate. Thankfully though, X-Men are coming to the MCU!

HypeVision

What can I add? It's a worthy series to get into and has some payoffs later. Kudos to the editor, you now have the look I'd been longing for. I'd just like to move you up a bit, so the captions aren't partially blocked. (One man's opinion)

Jim Schmitz

Unfortunately, the Hollywood elite looked down on actors in 'comic book' roles. A lot of excellent performances got brushed aside.

There are fewer DCEU films and about half of them are... a bit of a mixed bag. I'd definitely suggest watching the Director's Cuts of the Snyder films: Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League. Wonder Woman, Shazam, Aquaman and James Gunn's Suicide Squad are a lot of fun. Beyond that, you could safely skip the rest. Others might not agree, but that's my 2 cents. Outside of the DCEU, there's always Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy (which is amazing) and Matt Reeves' The Batman. Tim Burton's original Batman films are classics. It's... a lotta Batman, honestly...

Jack

For real? They announced it late November 2021. It was actually supposed to be available about two months ago.

Aldo Gonzales

I'm glad you guys are jumping in to these movies. They aren't always perfect but can be really fun to watch.

JJ Carlisle

okay now that a new one is coming out I guess we need to watch that series quick then!

Mr. October

we were thinking which one will he be to us in the end lol probably Magneto!

Mr. October

the man who portrays him is incredible can't wait to see this character's arch

Mr. October

yes, will you help us with where to start and what to watch? we for sure want to go down that route and would you think it'd be smarter to finish phase 4 or can they be done along side?

Mr. October

genuinely I think I need to petition this, bc I feel like he didn't get the Oscars he deserves!

Mr. October

OMG NO WAY!

Mr. October

We need 2 asap

In the comics Wanda is a mutant…. I think she became part of the x-men at some point but not sure.

Magneto is my all time favorite character in just about anything. You'll see how deep his character is over time and the relationship with charles is amazing. This movie takes place pretty much in the middle of the entire story. You'll have a bunch of time jumps that tells backstory between characters so pretty much all your questions will be answered that way.

Christian

I'm glad to see you diving into the Xmen universe. I hope you decide to take a look at the DCEU as well sometime in the near future. Its not perfect, but there are some gems.

Israel

It may be hard to believe, but Sir Ian McKellen has never won an Oscar, he has been nominated twice.

CheshireKat528

Anna Paquin plays Marie aka “Rouge” She won an Oscar at the age of 11 for best supporting actress in the movie “The Piano” from 1993. It was her first movie role. As an adult she is well known for her role as lead character Sookie Stackhouse on the HBO show True Blood that aired for 7 seasons from 2008-2014. Did Mr. October know she played a version of Little Red Riding Hood in the horror movie “Trick r Treat” from 2007, or was he just making a joke about her hooded attire 😜😆

Loved this!!! Mr. October has mentioned something before about how he didn’t realize that in the MCU so many superheroes were technology enhanced rather than just born with super powers. Congratulations!!! You have just met the primary Marvel superheroes that are just born with abilities, Mutants. I love that you guys recognized right away how layered, and potentially very muddy the main conflict is in this corner of the Marvel Multiverse. To add an extra complexity cherry on top, the conflict is centered around children. Lots to unpack with these characters and stories! I am so happy you guys didn’t know Sir Ian McKellen was in this and that he portrayed one of the greatest super-villains to ever grace a comic book page or the silver screen, The Master of Magnetism, Magneto!!! Perfect casting indeed. I love that Mr. October clocked his potential power level because of his control of the the Newton’s cradle, good stuff 👍 Fun fact: This movie was released in theaters a year and a half before LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring. Sir Ian has talked in interviews about finishing filming for X-Men and immediately flying to New Zealand to begin filming the LOTR movies. We all knew him as an awesome super-villain way before he won our hearts again as an awesome wizard. To most people he is Gandalf, to us X-Men fans, he will always be Magneto! Can’t wait for X2!!!

CheshireKat528

Oh damn I had no idea they were continuing the old series. How awesome is that haha. Great news!

From 1992 to 1997, X-Men: The Animated Series was highly popular and well received on the Fox Kids block. The success of this cartoon is the reason that 20th Century Fox took a chance at creating the X-Men live-action films. This first entry in the franchise is one of several movies that started the live-action comic book movie craze that we have today. I can also say in my opinion that it had a heap amount of perfect casting. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, and Hugh Jackman among several others have aced their respective roles. We look forward to you checking out the rest of this film series. Most of the entries you’re about to watch are really good. You’re in for a wild ride. In the meantime, Marvel Studios is developing a continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series. It’ll be under the name X-Men ‘97. Most of the original voice cast reprised their respective roles, and the story picks up where season five left off. The first season of the continuation (which is the sixth season overall) is premiering presumably this spring. A second season (or seventh season overall) is in development.
