Hi patrons! The future episode 16 of Pepper&Carrot will open on a panel with "Komona". I probably painted this flying city 4 or 5 times and it's really hard to keep consistency of the proportions, the scale of houses, pilars, size of the walls, etc... Komona is a complex 'object' and having it on a shot means spending a long and difficult painting time on it.
To solve this problem, I decided to create a quick 3D model of Komona in Blender 3D. It's not a detailed model nor designed to be a final 3D artwork; it's just a base to paint and draw over later. I used this technique a lot in my past illustrations and even wrote for the Blender Foundation a DVD training about it in 2010 "Blend&Paint". Now this model is done, I can see many benefits of playing with it: experiment new light design, new angle of view and playing with camera lens.
I'll show you soon a final version with painting on it. It will look way better! (don't worry; I don't want a cold and too 3Dish rendering for Pepper&Carrot backgrounds).
I join to this post the *.blend 3D file (CC-By, 3.5MB, 120 000 faces ) if you have Blender 2.76 or better and want to spin around Komona. I'll add it to the 'Source page' after the release of episode 16.
Have a good week all, and thanks for your support!
