before we begin... i'm 100% sure i don't really need to address it here, because you guys get it, but whenever characters use words like "speak/talk/say" about or with kai, that doesn't mean they want him to physically open his mouth and make sounds, everyone is well aware that's not going to happen! from what i experienced myself and from talking to a very kind !! reader who's deaf and was open to answering some questions for me, i gathered it's simply more common to still use these words in conversation when we mean to express means of communication. it would sound rather awkward to let jasper say "i wish you would just write to me what's going on" and always making sure to point out over and over again that kai does not, in fact, speak. when everyone should've gotten the memo by now and it seems unnecessary to me to always make it clear again.

as i said, i believe this PSA isn't needed here, but just for completion's sake i wanted to mention it here as well, as i'll be adding a short disclaimer about this topic to the public update when it reaches this scene.
