Hwat?! Hweekly!! Episode 1!

Here's what I love about Finlay: She's a very cautious person, but then every once and a while she throws a curve ball at me. We were testing a new show idea over the weekend and when we listened to the test episode to see how we felt she said:

"Let's do it!"

"When?"

"Monday."

-eyes emoji-

And so, we now present to you a new weekly (?!?) show:

Hwat?! Hweekly!!

Wherein I update Finlay on interesting things that happened last week that she missed because she is a workaholic who never comes out of her studio.

Part of me is saying "Joe, why are you doing this? You're so busy."

But honestly the reason why we're doing this is BECAUSE we're so busy. Midnight Burger is complicated and intricate and stressful-in-a-good-way to make and when you're making something like that it's important to also do things that are very much NOT that. Which brings us to this new little weekly thing we're doing.

This episode of "Hwat?! Hweekly!!" is free for everyone (Hi, free members) and the following episodes will be available weekly for the 5-dollar-a-month-and-up tiers. We hope you like it!

Chapter 39 arrives this weekend!

We love you!

This is cute and informative but my biggest take away is “honey”. This could make a fun drinking game! 🤣 🍻

IcedHeartOnFire

Just catching up now on wut u guys have been posting. I'm so behind haha but thank u so much for these. I love them so much

Margie Montes

For real tho!

Ronny Porter

This just sounds like ava and casper having a convo and im loving it

KidPuncher2006

Oh no, I’m a single female in my mid 30s and am likely quitting my job and moving back to my rural hometown at Christmas. 🤯 But I’m a biologist and am not, definitely absolutely not moving back to my hometown permanently! Nope absolutely not, never! Just a couple months until I volunteer to work with sea turtles in the tropics for 4.5 months… I will not be a hallmark cliche!

Courtney The Frogologist

I need to listen to one of the audible books narrated by Finlay. I imagine it would be amazing!

Courtney The Frogologist

I love this so much. It reminds me of myself and my partner when it comes to films and TV shows. I am oblivious to almost all of them and he is an expert so half of our time is spent with him telling me about a movie he loves and I ADORE him for it.

Mel Hartman

Cacao fruit is so good! I grew up eating it -- my uncle had a cacao farm. The fruit surrounding the seed is absolutely thrown away, and my cousin and I would try to "save" as much as possible and give ourselves upset tummies.

http://opr.news/7fbfa855240916en_us?link=1&client=apex this could be an interesting topic to discuss should you do another episode of this series

Richard Machado

😂😂😂

Ryan

I am such a Hallmark movie hater. I want to see stats about how many have an affair happening/relationships ending for someone to find their true love. Lord. Lol off to Google that. But excited for this new show!

Tina Case

The transparency is temporary! And as someone who gets stuck with an IV once a week being able to better see where veins are? So helpful!

She's a one-eyed, one-horned flying Purple(saline) people eater

Fun! Love your discussions. 😊

Jambastic

I’m in… once again

We’d Better Ask Dave

Yes! So much better than having to kill the mice. And as soon as they wash the dye off the skin stops being transparent. It’s all to do with the physics of light :)

Klev

Love this!!! It's so fun!

Wes and Heather have made it!

My husband used to do trailers for hallmark and there really are weird rules. Apparently the guy who runs it thinks feet are gross and you never see bare feet in hallmark movies or trailers ever.

Drowsy Rousey

He was a writer. There’s some info about it in an interview he did. Also his credits are listed somewhere on the interwebs.

Doozer

Back up, question for Joe! What did you do at Disney?

potionmaestro

💕💕💕thank you not least because you reminded me of the sweet ibises. I love them and loved the story of their travel but let that story get buried under a pile of horrors and clickbait. Hwat?! is apparently what I needed and didn’t know it.

Jennifer Calkins

This was phenomenal! Now hear me out... this needs to be a video podcast. I need to see Findlay's reactions to the strange stuff Joe is showing her!!

Dan Copenhaver

A friend of my sister is retiring to a South Carolina island and had FORGOTTEN ABOUT HURRICANES.

Sarah Elkins

as someone who rarely watches news and doesn't find out about anything until people start making memes about it, I love this

GlowWyrm

Love love love. I said in Discord that it’s like they are letting us into their weekly cocktail hour together. How lucky are we???

Doozer

Omg. 😆 🤣 yall are the best. This is great

Max Savage

What a game tho!! Go Lions!!

Doozer

Wonderful Momma and Poppa kick back session!! Thank you for this awesome treat! Much love ❤️

Chris Gonzalez (Ambientdriftingman80)

Hhhwat!!!!

Marissa Lulling

Love Love love... Never could get enough of you two together ❤️ thanks for making my evening!

Mirjam Pomper

Got to listen to it on my ride home last night, it was a good time! Chocolate kick, plastic-hungry bacteria, clear-skinned mice for the win good sir 👍🏽

Joey B

Also “Visible Mouse” needs to be a Monte Cristo or above level name. Sorry Joe.

Cathy Loper

I loved this so much. Until the transparent mice. That made me shout, “No no no!” in the otherwise empty car.

Cathy Loper

Its very interesting listening to this after taking Joe's reccomendation to read The Numlock Newsletter, a few of these stories seem pretty familiar from that

Take 20 Damage

This helps fill my need for all things Joe& Finlay. And please bring back shift notes! We have become the Teds for Joe entertainment!!!

walter piekarski

I loved this so much! Thank you for the update from someone else who doesn't really know what's going on.

Serena Redferne

5 stars!

Deary Darling

ENTSCHULDIGUNG - German transplant listening 🙋🏼‍♀️ You did great Finlay 🙌🏼

ENTSCHULDIGUNG

"Di.....did I need to know those things??.." my thoughts exactly. But I'm still here for it 🤣👌🏽 lookin forward to the next ♡

Marissa Lulling

I'm with Finlay when it comes to statistics. 60% of statistics are made-up and 6.2 stars worth are inappropriately quoted or applied. 😹

Kianna Crow Urges You To Resist

which one of ya smart alec kids gonna change your patreon name for the monte cristo list to the bacteria? :D (sorry Joe!!!)

Deary Darling

I'd say very high chance of backfiring. Like cats and dogs living together. Mass hysteria, things like that.

Mrs White, in the Hall, with a Laser Saw!!

I was thinking the same thing about the methane.

Mrs White, in the Hall, with a Laser Saw!!

Or our lab mice already bred to be hairless? And if we breed something to be hairless is it still a mammal? 🤔😉

Mrs White, in the Hall, with a Laser Saw!!

I can't get past wondering how they would apply the chemical to the mice. They would have to shave the mice down first, in order the tartrazine derivative? to be applied evenly. Which is so strange to think of little bald mice and then little bald transparent mice. And would they be tinged slightly yellow? Because I asked chat GPT if it were possible to remove the yellow from tartrazine and she said it would be really hard to remove it and it be clear. (and yes I did say she when I referred to chat GPT because I figured she must be a woman because she's so unbelievably smart.) 😁

Mrs White, in the Hall, with a Laser Saw!!

Carbon dioxide isn't the issue with cow farts. Cow farts emit methane, which is a much more potent greenhouse gas than CO2.

SenorDeuce

Love it! I’ve been missing shift notes. You make us feel like we’re in the room with a bunch of our besties. I feel like a greedy little listener, more, please.

Fernwoodgal

Thank you! Just what I needed this morning. 💜🖖🏻

Lola

Love it. But that invisible mouse thing is very strange looking. Just the belly seems to be invisible.

Terri Bills

As a fellow Los Angelino, I will take the earth shaking over hurricanes any day. Now, apparently, with more gold!

GothicRainbow

What if, and this is probably a terrible idea, what if we selectively bred the bacteria to better eat the plastic. What do we think the chances are of that backfiring?

Tybalt the First

Enshooldiguhn... Lololol. Great weekly fun news summary. Love it.

Kianna Crow Urges You To Resist

Mouse Weepe (Midst listeners will get it)

Saint Fu

Those poor mice. Can we leave them no dignity?!

GeminiProblems

This is great I seem to miss all the "important" news as well LOL. This keeps me in the loop. Loved this. Finley isn't the only one in a dark bubble most of the time haha.

Christine Bryant-Simas

Loved the intro Joe! This was perfect for my morning commute. Like Finlay, I'm always too busy to keep up with current events lol.

TerrifiedToddler

From Discover: “The technique has potentially profound implications for medical imaging because it could provide less costly and more effective ways for doctors to see what’s going on in human tissue.” Long before that, tho, it can help labs examine the effects of various potential treatments on the internal organs of live mice in real time for medical etc. research. There are a bunch of techniques to make mice transparent, but until now, all the mice were dead before they could be applied.

Charles

The best surprise for a Monday. Makes me feel less like I stayed up way too late to watch the Lions! Thanks for making my day better!

Kelly Barum

I'm so down! 💕

Christine Bryant-Simas

As soon as you described the Ultralight, i realized this is the Ibis version of "Fly Away Home" -1996

SignMyShovel

Cool stuff!??! Joe monologuing? My ears and body are ready.

Papitos

I'm constantly out of touch with thing due to how much I work. I am very much looking forward to it!

Petting dogs

You guys renew my faith in love... and bacteria

Charles

Thanks for this. As someone who is a workaholic and is.... "blessed" with ADHD, I genuinely understand the need for doing something that is not work. My brains are not my friend and they decided at 4:17am that it was time to Lego. I am currently building, listening to Joe's update, (I like Ibis hüten, where DID the sick bastards get the grant?) hoping that this gives you all a proper outlet for "very much NOT that". Thanks so much for sharing.

TheHarbingerPulsar

So, apparently the dye that turns mice skin transparent is in Doritos...when I googled it, most results specifically mention Doritos...were they giving the mice Doritos Liquor and found this out by accident? Possibly!

Quotes

Ibis ranger? Or, Ibis poke?

Chris Slaughter

One of the best intros to a podcast I’ve heard in a minute 😂

Eli

Oh my gosh this sounds so fun
