(Redo) Trabant Gearbox Rebuild

I had to make a couple changes to the original video. I wasn't happy with my lack of sprag clutch explanations in the first published video, so I went out, bought a Wacom drawing tablet, spent several hours figuring out some free animation software, spent another several hours drawing the sprag clutch animations (poorly), incorporated them into the final video with voiceover explanations, took down the original video, and posted the new one. And then I discovered the Trabant's freewheel isn't a sprag clutch at all when I looked it up on Wikipedia, so I took the second video down, scrubbed every single mention of sprag clutch from the video, and rendered it for the third time. Now the video has a brief description of how the freewheel works, no mention of the word sprag anywhere, and I can sleep easy.

oohhh, I thought you had done yet another animation for a sprag clutch.

It's in the gearbox video. I put it in where I assembled the new freewheel. I didn't remove the sprag clutch animation. I just removed any mention of the word sprag clutch.

Care to share the sprag clutch animation? Just with your patrons of course. I would hate so see that much work go to waste ;)

That's an interesting perspective, and it makes plenty of sense. It would certainly explain the removal of a keyway.

I think you did absolutely the right thing to stick with the pre *84 transmission parts. When I leaned one thing from growing up in the GDR: Things where always changed to be more cheaply to manufacture - to the point where reliability was very much affected. (They even put cardboard inside coins to save on aluminium). Also, now that you are working on a German car you basically have to cope with the stuff we have here in Europe all the time: Poorly translated english texts with no way to access the original (I am looking at you, smart phone apps) and all the good tech stuff not beeing available :D Very cool video and I am looking forward to part 3!

Don't let this fool you. I'm no stranger to taking time off

Cool animation. Wacom investment really shows. ;) Remember to take some time off too!
