This episode is the perfect bookend to Innocence. Think of what Buffy says to Jenny when she finds out more detail about the curse, "So it was me, I did it". Of course the ghost of James picks Buffy, because she feels as guilty as he does about, as Buffy says "destroying the one person he loved in a moment of blind passion". It's a brilliantly written and acted episode, with the Spike surprise at the end just a wonderfully added bonus. Also apparently the song James listens to before he shoots himself is also a time travelling ghost, considering that version of "I only have eyes for you", performed by The Flamingo's, wasn't actually released until 4 years after the events of the 1955 Sadie Hawkin's dance.

Frente disbanded in 1997 and Angie Hart and her then American husband, Jesse Tobias, formed a duo act called Splendid. That is who you see performing the songs on Buffy. Okay, I'll finish watching the reaction now. :)

Almost certainly will go to prison and will spend the rest of his life plagued with guilt and not knowing why this happened. James and the teacher can both rot in hell. She didn't deserve death, true, but she was a predator who should have been arrested (an adult in a position of authority who became romantically and probably sexually involved with a student). As for James, though there is argument for him being a victim of a predator and being an immature youth, you don't bring a gun unless you are expecting some kind of force or violence, and that speaks to his core character. I feel no real sympathy for either of them. I'll channel all my sympathy into Buffy for having to deal with Angel in that manner, into Giles for his grieving, and into George for the ruination of his life. Okay, and a little bit for Cordelia, as that snake bite looked painful.
