Reacting to (G)I-DLE and LE SSERAFIM (UNCUT)

Comments

I-DLE killed these imo. You obviously got the gist for both of the videos, I love how empowering their message is these past few comebacks (its always somewhat been there but its more overt now). For some added context: 퀸카 is a fairly dated phrase in Korea thats closest to like "popular bitch". Think of like Regina George. Can also compare to like "face card". Soyeon was going under the knife to be like the queen bees, but realized through the story that "true beauty comes from self-confidence after finding out that even the queen bees have their own insecurities and compare themselves with others." "The core message of 'Queencard' is that you can be a beautiful person if you adore yourself." Its especially pertinent for Soyeon, who was mercilessly hounded by comments on her appearance during Produce 101 (through today), stuff like "shes talented but I get why cube wont debut her" and stuff like that, about an at-the-time 17 year old.

Park Soyeon (not to be confused with T-ARA) is Le Sserafim's choreographer. She has been the performance director at Source for a little bit, making choreo for Gfriend near the end of their time there (so you know she got high standards). She has made some fuckin unreal choreos for LSFM, their award show stages last year were fucking INSANE. The "imma mess" part was teased in one of them last year. Hybe has had some great minds over the years working with their groups like Son Sungdeuk (HYBE's performance director and been there since the start with BTS and TXT, he is a great instagram follow because he posts so much with his child and he is the most adorable little boy ever) Kim Eunju (now ADOR's PD for Newjeans) and Keone and Mari Madrid. Park Soyeon is going to be giving us greatness for years to come, I fear. I'm so happy you added in Eve, Psyche & the Bluebeard's wife. Just because I don't want to type it all again, I had posted my theory on another comment section about it: I love this video so much. The women in the title were all forbidden to do something: eve to eat the fruit, psyche to look at Eros, and bluebeard's wife to enter the dungeon. They were all also punished for breaking what the person over them forbade. This is just my interpretation, but the painting that eunchae initially sticks out her pinky from is the banishment of Adam and Eve from Paradise by the Archangel Michael. Eunchae's chain extends for all the girls until kkura, who looks up the chain and is realizing something is wrong here. I read this as the Original Sin being used in mysoginistic ways throughout history, and modern patricarchal society as a continuation of that. Kkura breaks the chain, and at the end the painting has I WILL NOT HIDE MYSELF written on it. Kkura is thus extending you an invitation to the new world, where you can chase after what is "forbidden". Note in the three tales, each of the things that were forbidden to the women were good things: Eve gained knowledge, Psyche had wished to see her husband's face, and Ariadne.... learned her husband was a murderer of his previous wives and she exposed him and killed him. At least its good to know the truth right? Theres also something with Yunjin sitting there with the apple, next to the room where theyre free and dancing and there is all the writing on the wall, and then cutting back to zuha listening in on the room from the outside.
