How Elon Musk's 700 MPH Hyperloop Concept Could Become The Fastest Way To Travel: BUSTED!

.... no sooner than you think you are making headway, then Business Insider puts up another viral video on the hyperloop making all the old (almost decade old) promises.  700mph.....LA to SF in 30mins, less than $100... cheaper than regular rail etc.

However the end is actually now in sight for the hyperloop.  Once they try to put one of these systems together, it will fail like solar roadways.  The impracticalities are vast.  In this video we go over the calculations for the maximum size of the hole that can be tolerated in the hyperloop.   Even tiny holes in the hyperloop (a single failed seal, cracked weld, or bullet hole) trashes the hyperloops ability to hold a vacuum.  The key issue is that holes in vacuum system lead at about the speed of sound, while as the pressure gets lower, you have to pump longer to get the pressure even lower!

I’m no expert but I think Theranos did so well because the founder was good at charming older men. She used that ability to get a board that was almost a who’s who of international diplomacy. Sadly none were qualified in any science (let alone a medical one), but people took one look at the board and overlooked that. All it took was one large company to not do adequate checks before investing, and then suddenly money would have flooded in, with everyone assuming the other investors had done adequate checks. Then there is the naked greed. After all, the company could turn out to be the next Facebook or google and make hundreds of billionaires. I think the hyper loop companies are in the same boat. After all, it’s got Elon Musk (the man behind PayPal and Tesla) and Richard Branson backing it , so it must be good, right? That would have attracted a few investors (despite neither Elon or Richard actively contributing to any Hyperloop company) , then other people see people investing billions and they think they must have done their research. Thus the money floods in. I find it interesting that Elon, while he has talked about it, and done some experiments, doesn’t seem to have contributed anything else, leaving others to profit from his work. Almost as if he has worked out it will never work.
