Moon's Chosen - Tracing

I posted this drawing to social media on #WerewolfWednesday this week, and mentioned I should color it. Everyone went nuts and said YES! So here we are LOL

This was something I did a few years ago during a rare live stream, and I believe I gave the original to someone in a raffle from that stream. So I do not have the original. However I do have the scan, and I can use that to do a full color piece from.

I edited the drawing in Photoshop because I wasn't quite happy with some of the proportions. Once I got everything where I wanted it, I resized the image to the size of the paper I am using (11 X 14 smooth Bristol in this case), and printed it out on a large piece of inkjet paper. I trimmed that print to the size I need, then I affixed the print to the back of the Bristol with some artist tape. Now, using my trusty LightPad, I am tracing it onto the Bristol. Once I am done with that, I will clean up my lines a bit, and get the piece ready to be colored.

I use my LightPad a lot actually. These days I tend to do my sketching in Procreate on my iPad just so I can tweak things to where they need to be. Once I have my sketch as correct as possible, I do the same thing as described above. I print the sketch on ye olde printer paper, affix it to my Bristol, and trace my sketch onto the Bristol. I refine the drawing from there, and it saves me a TON of headache. I used to just wing it, and if the drawing went off the side of the paper, or if my proportions were horribly mangled, I had to do a tracing from that onto another piece of paper. And if I had to resize it? Oh boy.

Modern technology has saved me a LOT of headaches LOL

Thanks for sharing your process with the light table. I got one recently for my own drawings and wasn’t quite sure how best to go about using it. Thanks for clearing it up! Fabulous drawing too I can’t wait to see it finished

Awwwooo!!!
