Work on a new Title Screen! | Patreon Weekly #324

Hey Patrons, in this weekly I’m showing off a WIP for a new title screen background!

There’s also a new Shattered Secrets this week! In this Shattered secrets I’m going to share more detail on the environment concepting for the upcoming Metropolis quest overhaul!

Also, here are the results from last week’s Patreon Poll about the pacing to release new pixel art (with the two half and half options merged):
32%: Release new art ASAP
59%: Start releasing new art after gaining momentum
32%: Only release new art when it’s totally finished
Well that’s a pleasingly symmetric result! There’s some support for every option, but clearly there’s a preference to wait at least a bit until there’s some assurance that more new art will come soon. I’m afraid I can’t say when that will be specifically, but I do want to get going on it and hopefully we won’t be waiting another year!

Lastly, there’ll be an audio Q&A next week! You can ask questions here or in the Patreon discord.

Title Screen Video

If you haven’t already, take a look at the video above for a WIP video demonstration of the new title screen background!

Note that this video is rendered by Aleks using blender, and is not 100% accurate to how these visuals will appear in-game! It should be a very close approximation however, minus the pixellation of course, which has not been done yet.

This new title screen is meant as an extension on the current ‘arches in a void’ title in a similar way to how the hero and region splashes extended those designs. Rather than just having arches, there’s now two layers: a further one with the classic archways (with added detail) and a new mid-layer with a variety of chunks of dungeon terrain.

This video demonstration has structures that are meant to match the sewers region, but it’s entirely possible to have different sets of terrain to represent different regions. We’re going to start by trying to nail the sewers first though.

Shattered supporters will remember seeing a previous iteration on this title screen about a month ago. Since then we’ve made changes based on feedback (reducing the visual clutter was the big one), and refined the video demonstration to be much more accurate to how things should appear in-game. Hopefully this gives a more clear picture of how things should look, so it’s easier to give feedback.

Please let us know what you think! At the moment it’s looking like I’m going to try and push to get this new title screen implemented in a v3.2 patch, rather than waiting all the way until v3.3.

Looks great! I did expect to see more features related to the game. Stuff like dart traps, water, those wooden planks, grass. As awesome as this looks, it kinda looks like generic dungeon debris.

definitely think this is a lot more refined :3 like i said my main worry was losing the sense of awe-inspiring scale that the current background gives, and i think this one does that a lot better. still not 100% on the floating chunks, it looks a little weird, but i think that's more that i'm not used to it and it'll grow on me
