Work on v3.1 Side Content | Patreon Weekly #307

Hey Patrons! In this weekly I’m going to go over some of the various things I’ve worked on toward v3.1’s side content in the last week.

I also just updated the Alpha for v3.1! ALPHA-0.3 includes some more of v3.1's QoL fixes, and makes a tweak to the lethal defense talent

There’s also a new Shattered Secrets this week! In this Shattered Secrets I’m going to give some general thoughts on how trinkets are doing, and go over some ideas for more of them!

Various v3.1 Work

Firstly, I’ve implemented the sprite and basic behaviours for gnoll exiles. They’ve got a more grey appearance, and wield a spear. Currently they wander passively, meaning they won’t attack the player or aggro allies, but if they get hit that’ll change and they will become aggressive. They definitely need some polish work though, and in particular I feel like I’ve written their description to be too sympathetic for something that you’re ultimately meant to attack.

I’ve also done some work on new terrain types! The visuals are very much a placeholder atm, but we have barrels in the sewer, cages in the prison, metal structures in the caves, flaming pedestals in the city, and rubble in the demon halls.

These new terrain types are meant to show up in both new and old rooms. So far I’ve got a few ideas, but an especially promising one is a simple room with a row of these new objects (or statues) along the wall that’s most distance from a door. This would look like a barrel or cage storage room in the sewers or prison, and might work better with statues in places like the city or halls.

Lastly, I’ve implemented some much-requested QoL that you can actually use right now in the alpha! The hero can now be renamed from the hero info window in-game (in addition to setting a default name in hero select). Item custom notes can now also be accessed and edited from the item’s info window as well, instead of just through the journal. Item renaming it done through this button as well, you'll be given a choice on what you'd like to do if you have renaming unlocked.

Yeah I'm going to need to make a change there in some way. Either I'm going to give the player a way to peacefully deal with them, or make them be an exile for a much less endearing reason.
