Finishing up Holiday Items
In addition to various v2.4 concepting, one thing I spent some time on this week was finishing up item sprites and descriptions for the holiday items that will appear later in 2024. Here’s how they look!
From left to right, we have a rainbow potion for pride, some green cake for Shattered’s birthday, some blue cake for vanilla’s birthday, and some ‘sparkling potion’ for new years. I’m quite happy with how all of these sprites ended up, although it took a little doing for the sparkling potion in particular:
I was a bit too attached to keeping the top of the potion 3 pixels wide (so there was space for the cork between the glass), but this make the sprite too wide at the top. Things started looking much better once I accepted the top of the bottle could be just 1 pixel wide.
Here’s a little image of all the holiday sprites in a row, from earliest to latest appearance each year. There are now nine items in total, up from just two!
I’m going to be spending a fair amount of time this coming week with my parents, as my father is getting a knee replaced and will need assistance in the earlier stages of recovery. I’ll have something to share with you guys next week, but there may not be a lot of progress toward v2.4.0.
