Excitement for Future Content | Patreon Poll #33

(Apologies, I've had to re-upload this poll as it was incorrectly set to single choice only)

Hey Patrons!

With v1.4 still in the pipeline, I’m going to use this poll for something a little different. You’re all probably aware of what I talked about in the ‘Shattered Pixel Dungeon in 2022’ blog post, but even now there isn’t much certainty as to the order of those things.

I’d rather not have you guys decide on that order outright, but I would like to hear which things from that blog you’re most excited for. So, for this poll I’m going to put up the five major content additions left in the high and medium priority groups.

The strength of support for each option will help my considerations when prioritizing them. Please let me know what you’re most excited to see!

---

Please vote for all the options that you like, not just for your one favourite! I allow multiple votes as it means that a higher proportion of people will end up voting for the winning choice.

All patrons are encouraged to share their opinion by commenting and voting, but currently only the votes from Golden+ Supporters are counted when determining a poll winner. Votes from Shattered Supporters are worth double!

Blacksmith Quest Rework

As I’ve already talked about, I’d like to rework the blacksmith’s quest into a sort of mining minigame. The player would enter a special area and be tasked with mining as much treasure as possible while avoiding hazards. The amount of earned treasure would influence the quest’s reward.

New Hero: Cleric

The cleric will be a divine magic user with a wide variety of defensive, supportive, and utility spells. I want them to contrast with the Mage, who likes to heavily upgrade wands. The Cleric will get a wider variety of utility-focused magic instead, without having to use scrolls of upgrade.

Shop Rework and Expansion

I want to convert shops to use an interface and add a few new ones that are less consistent than the existing shops. These new shops would appear semi-randomly through the dungeon with more limited and specialized stock. Some may trade in things other than gold as well.

Ambitious Imp Quest Rework

I don’t have a complete plan for the Imp’s quest yet, but there are lots of interesting things that could serve as a quest setting in the Dwarven Metropolis. One promising idea is for the imp to ask you to raid a vault filled with treasure, though getting in and out might be quite an ordeal.

New Hero: Duelist

The duelist will be a weapons master who gains unique abilities based on what melee weapon she has equipped. I want her to contrast with the Warrior, who wants to upgrade armor to gain lots of passive power. The Duelist will instead focus on weapons through a bunch of activated effects.

Comments

Hi all :) I voted for the two new heroes and the shop. Thanks for this great game and keep up the good work ! Cheers !

I feel like shops, a hero or two, and then imp and blacksmith quest reworks are a good order, keeping PC players primarily in mind. I think the UI for shopping is too mobile, and new heroes would really separate it from the old versions with 4

I am definitely excited about all of these features, in the following order: 1) Cleric - I always felt like this is a hero archetype which is missing in PD. The fact that they will have access to a new kind of magic that doesn't rely on scrolls of upgrade is super interesting, can't wait to see how it will work. Bonus points for making them nonbinary. 2+3) Quest reworks - I have been looking forward to them from the moment I started to care about this game. This two quests are one of the last features that went almost completely unchanged since vanilla. I keep wondering what services will the blacksmith actually provide, and what will the new Imp's quest end up being. It should definitely feel more like a deal with the Devil. 4) Duelist - I'm definitely excited about this Hero too but not nearly as much as about the Cleric. Probably because we already have subclasses focused on melee combat, while the Cleric sounds like something completely unique. 5) More shops and interface shops - While additional random shops sound cool, they're simply not as interesting as a new quest or hero. I also understand that interface shops are functionally better that what we have now, but purchasable items lying on the ground have a certain appeal and feel like a staple feature of roguelike dungeon crawlers.

The Imp is often one of the most challenging parts of a shattered run - namely *finding* it again after farming the tokens, especially if you're in luck and it appears at the exit of level 19 in "water"... OK, it's supposed to be mostly transparent, fine. But how about making any yellow landmark tappable and have that link center the 'landmark'? I still vote shops - seems to me to be the idea with seniority, at least me methinks I already wished the shops to be friendlier back in 0.7x times when I found SP - or was that even longer? Don't get me wrong - *all* your work is excellent.

If the shop rework happens can we still see what's available without having to walk all the way back? (With the items on the floor it's easy to see if I want to stop by again before heading down the stairs)

Kim

I've been waiting for these two new classes for what feels like years! Definitely excited to see them!

Newt the Newt

I think I'm most excited about the cleric, but I'm so interested in seeing where the quest reworks are going
