Patreon Weekly #14 - September 6th 2019

Hey Patrons!

This has been another busy week for me. My thesis defence went well, but the examiners requested a few more revisions than expected. I hope to be done with the bulk of the revision work after this weekend. I do have some things to share though!

Polished Slime Sprites

I've spent some time polishing up slime sprites, and I'm really happy with the result:

I want slimes to look reminiscent of Goo, but with a few crucial differences. Goo should look oozy and viscous while slimes should be more round and bouncy. I'm really pleased with how that direction has turned out.

Necromancer Progress

Now that the sewers are all ready, I'm working on getting the prisons in shape as well. There's still some work that needs to be done on the final stage of the Tengu fight, but I've talked about that enough, so how about some necromancer details instead?

These WIP sprites are currently heavily based on thieves. While I really like the sort of tall robed figure aesthetic, I worry that these look a bit too derivative, especially as prison guards already look similar to statues. I'll likely put some work into changing the details here so that necromancers look more distinct from thieves.

I've also got a rough implementation of necromancers working ingame, though they're not quite ready for primetime yet. There's a tricky balance to them, as they need to be threatening without also drowning the player in skeletons if they can't rush them down right away.

Beta Release Date

Due to the LibGDX changes and my thesis, work has gone a bit more slowly than I would have liked, so I'm going to split 0.7.5 into two updates! The first half focuses on the prison, and will include everything I've shared here except for DM-100s. I'm hoping to put that to beta and write a blog post about it next week.
