Star Wars Episode 7 - The Force Awakens *FULL LENGTH*

Despite the Rogue One Thumbnail, it's actually Star Wars Episode 7
Off-schedule Tuesday full length reaction time!

Next week will be my return to my planned schedule, but for today here is Star Wars Episode 7 - The Force Awakens!!

I'll start off by saying overall, I enjoyed this movie.  I've already seen a lot of complaints about the old characters in this movie, which is silly since people change over time, so to me, whatever the changes are from Episodes 4/5/6 to episode 7, they are fine.

I feel like the visuals in this movie are really great, it really puts me in the Universe.  I loved seeing the destroyed ships in the sand on Jakku (the scale of the ships was amazing to see), and I do love the new way that the Force is being used (extract information from people's minds).

I'm looking forward to seeing what the new characters become, though I'm not a fan of Finn because of the comedy and the fact that he uses a lightsaber.  I don't know why I'm so against it, but I prefer it if only the people being trained or that will be trained in the Jedi ways to use a lightsaber, it makes it that much more special.

Rey and BB-8 are my current favorites.  I haven't seen Adam Driver in much, but he's not really selling me Kylo Ren yet.  I'm hoping he gets better in the next few movies.

I loved seeing Han and Chewie again, and I'm interested to see what Luke will be like.  I didn't like the long scene at the end of Rey just holding out the lightsaber and Luke just looking at her and not doing anything.

Live Long and Prosper! 🖖

I think I would be the nicest Sith Lord 🤣

I think you would have been seduced by the Dark Side the way you were egging Rey on to destroy Kylo "Ben". Remember to use the Force only for defense.

From what I've see, there is a lot of hate for it, but I have to agree, aesthetically this one looked amazing! Definitely the best looking Star Wars for me. The music is fantastic, yes! And some of the characters are different from what we've seen before which is fantastic. I do love how Finn is a stormtrooper... very different from anything in Star Wars before which is great. Though I'm not a fan of the style of acting/comedy, I still like the idea of his character. Kylo Ren definitely seems like a massive Vader worshiper which is interesting to see :D There's definitely no winning. If it's too much like a previous Star Wars, it's a copy, and if it's too far, then it's not staying true to Star Wars style. It's similar to a video game that people LOVE and kept asking for more of the game. Same playstyle, same mechanics, just more. A company did that, and people dislike the game because it's too similar to the original. It's really sad that there is no pleasing some people :( I'm very curious to see The Last Jedi and Rise of the Skywalker so I can finally have an opinion on all of it :D I'm glad that you look at the movies in a positive light and can see the good/challenges/risks that were taken!

This trilogy gets way more hate than it deserves. For me, there are elements in it that are among the best Star Wars has ever been. Aesthetically, it's gorgeous. That deep film look that hints at "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away." It's like the sequel trilogy looks like what my "memory" of the Original Trilogy was, but richer. I also find the characters and actors to be very likable, even if the plot elements aren't always there. And John Williams's score is some of the best music he's ever done. (Honestly, I feel like the new themes he wrote here are as good as the ones from the original movies.) I also think people don't recognize how original a lot of the characters are. Finn is *very* different from what we've gotten before. By making him a Storm Trooper recruit, it makes us question the whole idea of the "faceless enemy" trope that we've been comfortable with since the original trilogy. Apparently not everyone on the bad guy side are true believers. They're just people forced into the action--kind of like what we see here on earth. Kylo is also very different than what we've seen in Star Wars - he's essentially a Vader fanboy who is openly insecure. (He's not the Vader clone that a lot of people have tried to paint him as.) People also hated The Last Jedi for straying too much from what they wanted from the franchise and its characters. (Which is ironic, since The Force Awakens was criticized for hewing too closely to "A New Hope.") While I can understand some of their disappointment, I don't think "The Last Jedi" gets enough credit for the fact that it took chances. It's very difficult to please fans of a franchise. When you're too repetitive, you get criticized; but when you take chances, you get death threats. I will say I do have big issues with "The Rise of Skywalker." Without getting into too much detail, I'm convinced--having recently rewatched the whole trilogy--that much of the problem with it was a result of the executives panicking from the toxic reception that "The Last Jedi" got, causing them to abandon their original plans and clumsily introduce elements that weren't properly set up.

I think that's a great way of putting it... not the trilogy you would have written, but it's still enjoyable. Ahh, I didn't know that it was made to get people to question who would be the Jedi featured in the film or if both would. That would make sense why to get Finn to use the lightsaber, but I still don't like it. It makes it feel less like the story was written for story's sake, and more to cater to fans and have elements of surprise. I will keep Finn, thank you very much 🤣Jar Jar is a thing of the past, and hopefully a small role in Clone Wars! I'm completely fine with Rey being a prodigy, just hasn't had the chance to actually tap into her powers, it's very common in anime too. I'm definitely rooting for her to become more powerful and knock Kylo Ren down a peg or two. Yes! Chewie walking right by Leia at the end was really weird. I feel like it would make WAY more sense for Chewie and Leia to hug after their shared loss. It felt very strange, especially since it didn't seem like Leia and Rey would have any reason to hug, to me. The movie was definitely enjoyable and I'm excited for the next two!

Yes! I think Vader was just feeling lonely and wanted to have a nice meal and a nice chat 😂

Hi Vero, Glad you liked this first installment. I think every Star Wars fan should watch the sequel trilogy. Even though I was extremely disappointed in some of the story and character choices Disney made over the 3 films I don't think they were bad at all, in fact some of it was good as Han would say. This is not the trilogy I would have written if it were up to me. That said I found them enjoyable. Literally 30 seconds after tickets became publicly purchasable for each movie, I had my seats reserved for my local theater. I think the places where Finn had a lightsaber were designed to be head fakes for the movie previews. There was a lot of speculation at the time as to whether Finn or Rey would be the Jedi featured in the film or both. It was obvious of course once the movie gets going. I am kind of with you about non Jedi handling light sabers. That said I loved Finn's character in this movie. If you don't like the light comedy you can always have Jar-Jar :). In the Disney era, Jakku is the site of the Battle of Jakku where the Rebellion finally defeats the Empire for good after Return of the Jedi. You can relive some it by playing the recent EA Battlefront Game in campaign mode. That's why you see all the crashed Imperial ships that Rey is salvaging. Personally I like Rey's character, it does seem that she is a bit too good. But I saw her more like a prodigy who really has no idea how good she is. Anakin was a prodigy in the Phantom Menace. He wins a race, shoots down enemies and blows up a ship all as 9 year old. Just my take :) The biggest miss imo is the scene where Chewbacca and Rey descend from the Millennium Falcon after destroying Starkiller base and Chewie walks right by Leia and Leia hugs Rey as if Chewie wasn't there. Not that the scene with Rey was bad but a clear miss. Otherwise looking forward to The Last Jedi and your thoughts there.

So the trivia answer, Darth Vader said it in Episode 5, The Empire Strikes Back after Han tries shooting Vader and Vader uses the Force to remove his blaster from his hand.

Sinister Maul

My advice, between 7 and 8, you should read the Kylo Ren comics, which will give you an insight on his character and why he became the way he is. Ben Solo is my personal favorite, even above the OG characters, whom I grew up with. People say Kylo is weak in this movie, he gets beaten by a stormtrooper and a girl, but we have to remember that he had received a blaster shot to the stomach and survived. The same blaster that sent 3 stormtroopers flying in the air when Han tried it. He had to keep hitting his wound to keep his adrenaline pumping so he could keep fighting. So stop disrespecting Ben Solo, or else... or else... or else I will keep trying to convince you of how great he is! There! That should scare you!

Oh and by the way, I don't know if you know this or not, but the guy that buys her junk on Jakku is played by the Great Simon Pegg, and the stormtrooper that removed her restraints is played by the Great Daniel Craig haha

Toukie

100% I personally didn't mind how they handled the original characters, people have problems with that more so in Last Jedi but like you said people change and it's been 30 years since we last saw them. Maybe people who grow on them when we get more backstory in stuff like the tv shows.

Jedi Mandalore (Dylan)

A rehashed Death Star isn't great, I would hope that a new weapon would be developed, but I suppose, why change the design... If it works. The First Order not being developed is fine with me because I'm sort of hoping that the TV series or future movies can expand on it. It leaves lots of storyline that can still be made to further develop the Universe. Whether that will happen or not, I don't know, but it's my hope. I think that's one thing about Star Wars is that with the new addition of TV series and movies, it's great to go back and see how everything ties together. Reusing similar ships makes sense, it's a lot cheaper to use similar models from the past than reinvent them all :D My biggest issue with showcasing the original trilogy characters is that people will most likely NOT be happy with new actors taking on fan favorites. Though I am exposed to a LOT of fans that are very harsh and refuse everything aside from the original trilogy, so maybe I see things in a more negative light. Though I'm hoping that we do get to see what happens between episode 6 and episode 7 with TV series and movies (even if it's not focused around the main characters from the original trilogy). I will 100% watch the other two sequels, even if I end up being disappointed, since I'm sure there will be parts that I enjoy (like CHEWIE!!!)

That would have been amazing!! BB-8 >>>> Santa Claus for sure. I love that Star Wars can make us so excited like that. I would treasure that picture forever

Verowak

I have a picture of myself with BB8 at a comicon.., I look like a child who just saw Santa Claus for the first time. I'm 48 years old and I look 5 years old because I literally have stars in my eyes

Timeframe: So this film is set in 34 ABY so 34 after the events of A New Hope and 30 years after Return of the Jedi so around the same amount of years from The Phantom Menace to A New Hope. Overall Thoughts: When the movie came out, I enjoyed it even though I had many problems with it I still found it a great movie. My main problem is how similar the story is to A New Hope I'm personality not a big fan of superweapons like the Death Star was cool but then came the 2nd Death Star which I never care for and then this movie came out with Starkiller base, pretty much a planet turned into a mega Deathstar which can destroy a whole sector of planets. New Republic: Was also disappointed at how we didn't get to see the New Republic a faction that plays a massive part in the old EU books, for example, the Thrawn Trilogy so when I saw their Capital Sector, Hosnian Prime and main fleet destroyed, I was like "Well shit there goes the New Republic guess we'll not be seeing them again" but overall I still enjoyed the movie just wish the plot was more unique. After this trilogy, I'm still not a fan of the First Order just don't care about them compared to the Empire, CIS, or the Republic so that impacted my enjoyment of the series. The First Order: I like the idea of the First Order but I wish they had more development and introduction in this film beyond being the "Empire's little brother" expand on what they stand for and where they actually came from but nontheless an interesting faction. The First Order does have some interesting ships I love their Star Destroyers the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer but everything else isn't too different or upgrades of Imperial ships and vehicles, for example, the First-order Tie Fighters which are two-seater, unlike the previous TIE models. The First order Ties were also outfitted with enhanced weapons and sensor systems as well as a hyperdrive and deflector shields something the Imperial Tie fighters of the Empire did not have. I remember a lot of people being confused on why the First Order used Tie Fighters 32 years after the Empire stating the ships would be outdated but I personality did not mind as real-world nations like the USA still use ships, planes, Vehicles and jets created 50 years back at the time of the Cold War to the 1980s and the 1990s, so I'm not surprised that the Star Wars universe is the same. The First Order Armor is also greatly inspired by Stormtrooper Armor there even referred to as Stormtroopers as well as keeping that whole "New Empire" vibe. My wishes: I do wish that they started right after Return of the Jedi and made a trilogy about our main characters and the creation of the New Republic to build up to the events of this trilogy which is my biggest problem the lack of worldbuilding in the sequel movies compared to the Prequels for example. The Sequels also lacked a plan pretty much the directors and writers had no idea where this series was heading until like the prequels where since Episode 1 the goal was to show the downfall of Anakin Skywalker and the fall of the Jedi and his transformation into Darth Vader. Sequels on the other hand jump about with ideas some were met, and others didn't go anywhere. This is something shows like The Mandalorian are doing showcasing the five years after Return of the Jedi and who knows maybe connecting to these films set 25 years later. My Ideal Trilogy: My ideal plan would be a trilogy focused on our original trilogy characters set a few years after Return of the Jedi focusing on Luke's Jedi (mentioned in this movie where it's stated the temple was destroyed) Temple along with a look at Leia in the New Republic and maybe some little cameos of characters like Han and maybe even Lando. This of course will focus on the New Republic with the help of Luke's Jedi to hunt down the remaining Imperial forces who have broken up into smaller factions that are overseen by warlords. The movie goes through these events building up the universe currently along with Ben Solo ending with the fall of Luke's Temple. Then we jump 30 years into the future, and this is when the Sequels movies take place using the worldbuilding of the last trilogy to tell its own story without having to copy too much of A New Hope. But like how I mentioned The Mandalorian they could easily just create prequal shows similar to Clone Wars and how that expanded the Era. I'd set these decades before the movies though like Mandalorian. End Thoughts: But overall, 2015 was an amazing year for Star Wars everyone was hyped that a new film was coming out and regardless of how people felt about these movies they can't deny the hype surrounding the film. Glad you enjoyed it, and please don't be turned off by other people’s views 100% watch the other two even if people say don't. I'm not a big Sequel fan myself but it's just silly to force someone to not watch a movie because they don't like it lol I hate Batman and Robin but love to see people react to it.
