There was no oddity responsible for the big story here, but it was still a monogatari arc because it revolves primarily around human perception and memory. If anything, the true oddity that is messing with Oikura's life is mathematics, a perfectly logical system that clashes with the not always logical reality of being human.

While I understand the reaction ethics, so to speak, of not knowing the novel publication order, I wish Anna and Ben could see the order at this point, given their curiosity. More specifically, I mean the publication order of what they've seen so far, as there's no reason to spoil them with the names of future arcs. In particular, it would be interesting to hear their thoughts on the location of Hanamonogatari. I can debate either side of the question between anime release and novel order, so I'm always interested in others' perspectives. I also hope they eventually listen to (well, read the subtitles for) the commentary tracks. Ben in particular would probably appreciate the commentaries for the Sodachi Lost arc with regard to Oikura's letter to Araragi. Meanwhile, especially given the discussion about the order of events, I can't wait for their reaction next week!

2026-02-19 03:15:40 +0000 UTCapparently is impossible to solve the puzzle without the physical novel in japanese so even with what we got in the anime we still need the book lol I hope they check the thread sometime in the future but since they don't read comments I don't think it will happen. They seem very fond of the series though, specially Ben, so maybe once they finish the 3 seasons the curiosity will eventually make it happen.

There is a lot to say about Sodachi Riddle and Lost, but honestly my favorite aspect of it is how emotional it is while having zero supernatural / oddity related events at all. Just a purely human reaction to trauma and loss. Regarding the letter, there is a lot of stuff out there about it, but my personal favorite idea is this: When she left the original empty envelope, it was to symbolize that she chose the wrong door in the Monty Hall show game. I like to imagine the the letter she left Araragi in the end were just blank sheets of paper, implying that he had grown into the winning option, and helping her was evidence of that.

Even in the monogatari series, it is such a unique story, and Ougi's cryptic antics are such a treat whenever she/he/? is on screen. By the way, discovering the content of Sodachi's letter at the end is its own meta puzzle from the author to the viewers, which is something I absolutely love, but unfortunately many hints rely on kanjis and are as such lost in translation to non-japanese people. The many comments from Araragi regarding how Senjougahara's texts at the end of the episode are weirdly phrased were actually hints.
