What I find interesting is that while this show had antagonists turning into allies, I believe Garf is the first time a character turns from a quasi-friend to an antagonist due to the changes in Subaru's demeanor.

The anime did a phenomenal job adapting them and both voice actors blow it out of the park with their performance. Another day of thanking god for making me a re:zero fan

2023-11-15 08:34:54 +0000 UTCthe scent increases in weight after returning by death multiple times in a specific time frame. this is why garfiel decided to act to see if he was really suspiscous. his behavior towards subaru got increasingly worse with each return by death because the scent gets worse.

2023-11-15 03:48:30 +0000 UTCAlso note: Subaru does not smell like the witch if he hasn't reset for awhile. It is why he was not killed by Rem or Ram when he was at the mansion for the first restart. If he ALWAYS had the witch's miasma on him mabeasts would exclusively always target him, but he has to mention return by death in order to attract them. Basically the scent only occurs when her power is used or when he tries to explain the power.
