BOCCHI THE ROCK! 1x12: "Morning Light Falls on You" // Reaction and Discussion

BOCCHI THE ROCK! 1x12: "Morning Light Falls on You" // Reaction and Discussion

As a sequel goes, the good news is that bocchi was beyond popular when it came out Fall 2022, a season where it had to compete with Mob Psycho final season and debut of Chainsaw Man. Against these and other competitors, It won Anime of the Year at the Anime Trending Awards (by popular vote), as well as Best Original Soundtrack, Best of Adapted Screenplay, Comedy Anime of the Year, Music Anime of the Year and Best in Voice Cast. So far it holds the record for awards granted to any one show by that organization. Basically, Bocchi is based af, and everyone knows it. Bad news is that the director is busy with Frieren, which brings me to my next point: you should totally watch that next! It will make you cry along with the laughter, but like Bocchi I think it would make a great addition to your lives. Best way to describe it really.

I think the thing I haven't seen many content creators figure out is something you touched on, namely that everyone in the band has come to accept Bocchi's social anxiety in a way that they cover for her. Kita really learned Bocchi. She figured out her nature enough to know exactly where to look for her and even stopped herself from pushing Bocchi into something that she knew would be uncomfortable for her. Even Ryo knew that after getting a new guitar, Bocchi was only going to have one thing on her mind: playing it! She shut down the after shopping cafe run perfectly. Going back a few episodes, we see our favorite lush with her band after a gig and Bocchi realizes how they all are different, but they all know how to complement one another, both musically and socially. And I think that's why the second half of this episode is so perfect. Bocchi did more than find a band... she found her tribe! Her bandmates understand and accept her and she accepts each of them in turn. How else can an introvert teach another person how to play guitar? She found something more than fame or glory, she found a family.

Thanks you for your reactions and loving this show, I struggle to put it between my first or second favorite anime from last year. Oshi already gave some good information, adding to that, something that is not confirmed but heavily theorized is that the production wants the same director for season 2. Right now he's busy with another amazing show that is airing right now and you definitely should check out called Frieren, I don't doubt that it'll be at the next poll, it is a heavy contender for anime of the year . Back to Bocchi, I do hope that's the case and the same crew work in a season 2 , fingers crossed.

Sorry in advance for the novel, but I love this show.. Now that the show is over, hopefully you guys will see this for a bunch of after-show information and fun facts: - The series is getting a movie as a recap movie for season 1. There was a lot of fan love and a huge uproar internationally for this show - it aired in the Fall 2022 (Oct-Dec) timeframe along side huge shonen shows Bleach, Chainsaw Man, and Mob Season 3. It passed everything on MAL's ratings while it was airing except for the crazed Bleach fanatics and is generally regarded as one of the best - if not the best - anime that aired that year. - All of the animation changes and the different styles were a big driving force that brought the show into the light of the mainstream initially and then after episode 8 the popularity exploded. The live-shots weren't just real-life shots inserted into anime but anime pulling in real scenes from real life as well (in stunning detail). In episode 4, the ProPhos episode, a lot of those areas that the band visits are real life locations in Shimokitazawa that were brought into animation and there was a big wave of domestic tourists that visited the area - especially Shelter which is the name of the actual live house that Starry is based on. If you're interested just search "ANIME vs. REAL LIFE - Bocchi the Rock!" on YouTube and I'm sure you'll find the video of someone re-creating all the scenes (and the Bocchi the Rock poster that Shelter had on their stairway). - That final ED is the only song that is not anime-original. I get a little teary-eyed sometimes when I think about Bocchi in-character singing it. They outsourced writers for the other songs from popular bands in the industry, but the last one is an homage to the name-sake of our characters. Gotoh, Kita, Ijichi, and Yamada are the last names of the 4 members of the J-Rock band Asian Kung-Fu Generation and they're credited as the initial driving inspiration for Aki Hamaji's (the Mangaka) work here. They've done openings for Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Erased to name a few and are pretty much legends in the industry as they've had a lot of commercial success. - AKG and Shelter also tweeted out before the final episode of the show as sort of a nod to the fanbase since I'm sure they both got a lot of additional sales and business as a result of the show's success. - The manga is still ongoing and it does go a pretty good length further than where the anime ended at so there's plenty potential for more show. That said, the manga is pretty different from the anime and as much as I want more show I REALLY want the same staff on the project. The anime expands on the source material greatly and it is it's own experience primarily thanks to the animation director Kerorira (けろりら @kerorira1 on twitter, he releases art there often enough). He was a big fan of the manga and basically badgered his way into his role for the show and wore a whole bunch of different hats behind the scenes in order to give it so much love. There's a translated interview between the director (first series director credit), Kerorira, and one of the executive producers that touches on what was going into the show and all of the freedom that the artists and the staff were given for the show. https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2022/11/26/bocchi-the-rock-main-staff-interviews-series-director-keiichiro-saito-character-designer-kerorira-animation-producer-shouta-umehara/ - On Dec 24th the final episode aired and they released an album with 5 album-original songs and all 9 full-length songs that we've seen in the show. For the first 4 weeks of the release it was in the top 10 of most sold albums internationally, I think the highest it got was 4th overall in an individual week so I think the sales are there. They released another 2 songs after that too as a standalone EP. There have been a number of live events related to the show in Japan since the release as well. The voice actress for Bocchi also still hosts a radio show/podcast-like series called Bocchi the Radio which releases now and again on YT too so they're still making content revolved around the show but no Season 2 has been announced officially yet :(

Oshi

Every ending being sung by each of the voice actors is awesome.

Gunny

does anyone know if they ever realized that all the music in the show, including all the different ED songs, are actually sung by the voice actor characters themselves? i dont remember them ever commenting about it during the reactions but i also dont watch all of the outro talks so

Great reaction and discussion as always for the whole season. If it wasn't spotted or given much thought the lyrics for their 2nd song are awesome. They're easy to miss with the guitar malfunction and Bocchi's internal monologue, but the lyrics are pretty clearly all about the wonderful friendship between Bocchi and Kita and their admiration for each other.
