PANAMA CITY!

Comments

well done chaps! Can't wait to hear you crossed that famous canal safely with that environment of huge ships !

Leo and crew... On a cruise some years back our ship anchored out and everyone tendered ashore for a day at Panama City. On the way in we passed through a marina where there was a ship load of really fancy yachts. (Yeah, I know... I know ... Borrowed that one from Mercogliano!) Hope ya might be able to score a berth there for a couple days. If such things are a scarce commodity this time of year, perhaps some kind fellow yachtsman might anchor out a night or two and let Tally Ho come in so's folks can see her up close! And perhaps another chance for Leo to break out the AV 'show and tell', like up in Richmond. BTW: The Richmond meetup was a rousing succes! ... and ya kin count on many more of those afore ya get 'er home! Question... Will a short stint in fresh water do anything to help clean the hull? Wishing you smooth motoring during your passage through the Canal ... ... and I guess maybe a chance for a bit of a sail once you get to the lake, winds willing.

Hi Leo, What is the situation with the electrics now, are you working with the 12v system only or does the short temporary belt allow you the produce 48v for cooking, Anchor winch etc. Have you received the replacement Hybrid motor? Answers in the next video, please. You now have an enforced break in Panama, hope you can enjoy some down time, before the transit through the canal, all being well you should be able to escape into the Caribbean Sea before the end of February, which I hopefully will give you 3 months visiting family and friends before the Hurricane season. Blessings, Pip

To Leo and crew ... Plenty of time to get stuff done, mingle with yacht people and have some fun! Yeah... Rent motorbikes and do a bit of sightseeing. Nice train ride that runs along the canal and across lakes from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Rent bikes, bus or Uber back. Plenty of new friends to show you guy's around too, I'm sure. Hoping you guys have a great transit... BTW: I was on a destroyer in LA in the 70's. Needed to have our radar dish removed and a new one installed. Along comes this crazy huge crane on a barge. I don't remember the name of it but it was something like 'Herman the German'. It was brought over from Germany as part of reparations after WWIi. I swear, it looked like it could have hoisted our entire ship outta the water. Seemed rediculous to see it with our teeny-tiny little radar hanging from a wire dangling from it's monster of a boom. When the Navy left town, it got moved south to Panama. 'Herman' (?) will certainly be handy should there ever be a need to quickly clear the canal of sunken wreckage or some such. I saw it from the cruise ship.... Ya can't miss it! (If it's still there...) Gary...

He said β€œa couple of weeks”. πŸ˜€. The transit can’t be booked before arrival and of course everything is traffic dependent.

Rich Hayes

Why do you have to wait "several weeks" for a slot to transit the Canal? Can't they work small boats in when there is extra room in the locks?

Sydney Evans

I remember β€œPanama red” from the 70’s.

Please tell me where you are docking in Panama City. I have two delightful friends who live there and who I have told your story to and they would love to drop by and say hello......on my behalf.... a faithful follower for 7 years.

My daughter spent time there a while ago, she said there is a lot to see and yes, Panama City is enjoyable, too.
