Abstract Volume Manipulations (tutorial)

In this tutorial we will be using volumes in geometry nodes to make an abstract animation, i will show you how to use textures to manipulate them to get some cool looks!

yes a generic node setup for mesh objects would be great. would replace some pretty expensive and not well-performing After Effects plugins for me. XD

GermanRacoon

hmmm i need to try this out

Hi and thank you so much for your reply. While I understand some of what you have clearly explained I am still grappling with getting to a point beyond following tutorials with geometry nodes. Would you be willing to share a blend file with me so I could look at your solution? No worries if not. I have Ducky’s latest geo nodes course purchased and will be working my way through that which probably contains solutions for this particular thing.

I looked into this a little more and found that while the volume cube node basically stays, we can just use the earlier process logic to add an additional masking layer before we reach the volume cube. so this additional mask I would put in my alternate shape to have it conform to a cylinder or sphere overall etc. I think for a human mesh, in case of a statue this would be the same, just have the entire mesh inside the bounds of the volume cube. however for a dynamic/moving mesh, I wonder if projecting the animation onto the surface of a separate model is the way to go, was it the ray portal node?🤔

Myriad

Hey man - I too was wondering how this technique can be applied to different meshes (mainly human meshes etc) - I’ve tried mesh to volume but cannot connect the colour ramp and noise to this. Any advice? As always, love the tutorials and the results you produce 👍

Love the result of the tutorial. it reminds me of an animation I saw that I wanted to replicate but wasn't sure where to start and now I know :D I wanted to try and apply this to different volume shapes like pyramids, cylinders etc. do you suppose the volume cube node is straightforward to replace?

Myriad

Hi Ducky longtime viewer! love your stuff. I'm curious though would there be a way to apply this geometry node tree to a model of a face and have it do the same thing? i have tried multiple different ways to do it but i just cant figure it out. thank you for the awesome tuts!

Thee_N

very interesting the way you play with some little details. For example you didn't put the 2nd color ramp to the volume but instead to the ico-sphères scale. Those are detail that beginers like didn't think about. So it help to learn the technique but also the sense of details. Great I like it :)

Ranska_ X

Excellent tutorial as always. I like the exposure to new concepts that you provide in these demos.

In you tube, it's more easy to stop and go with the video. And to download it with a firefox addon to play it as i want.

the player is very unresponsive, at times it gets stuck and needs a page refresh, it is not easy to go to precise moments of the video very easily in patron video player as the slider gets stuck and jumps all over the place, overall the video playback in patreon is not the best! Your videos are super awesome though :)

Bezonance

can you describe the issue in more detail! im still trying to decide if the patreon player is worth it. if it keeps having problems ill go back to youtube

Nathan Mark Duck

why is it no longer possible to watch tutorials on you tube like before? Video playback and handling are more comfortable. Unless there is a link to download the video on Patreon? Thanks
