Project Suspended

I'm not sure how long this will be for, if not permanent. But I have suspended the project due to... yet again... another entitled idiot leech.

Such scum has always continued to be the bane of this project. Every time I try to pull back and adjust so that I am not catering to them... they find a new way. Then I have to try something new in order to keep the project going.

It's insane how entitled and egotistical people are now! Feeling entitled to projects that were SPECIFICALLY m...

A New CaVE Build

Today I have released a new build of CaVE. It includes work from the past month. Most notable is the FTP support, a general reworking of the Sync code, updates to the Automatic Updates code, and some changes/additions to the Saves tab.

FTP support

  • FTP supports syncing of Saves in addition to database files.

  • FTP server detection is done on a 30s interval between pings. (The interval can be adjusted in the settings file, as low as 5.)

  • Added ...

A New Year, and a New Chapter for CaVE

As most should know now, CaVE v1.5 is public again! Though I have still kept the Beta label. I am not sure when I will drop that.

The future is uncertain for the project. It's hard to say how many supporters will drop, or how many potential new supporters I would have otherwise would decide to not support. Support is what keeps me motivated.

But of course, I have done everything I can to give users a good reason to support! So for now I just have to hope that is enough.

Push for Christmas CaVE v1.5 Beta Public Release!

I have decided that, I would like to try and get CaVE v1.5 released publicly on the 25th. I like releasing stuff for Christmas, and that is my best option. Further, I have previously stated that I would like to release v1.5 publicly before the end of the year anyway.

CaVE v1.5 has been private far too long. While my main focus will continue to be on supporters, as they are the ones that keep life in these projects... the public has been stuck with v1.4.6 for far too long. Everyone else ...

CaVE and GBA DisplayEx Update

I know this is a bit soon for a CaVE update. And neither tie into any NSO updates. But the new build of CaVE is important.

CaVE has been in private beta for a really long time. And thats because I have not felt it was ready for wider usage. And really, 2 persisting issues have been why. Mod Synchronization and 2024-12-16 15:27:58 +0000 UTC View Post

GB/GBC DisplayEx Update

In v1.10.0.0 and going forward, there's a new feature in the GB/GBC DisplayEx.

Inspired by cucholix's work on a similar mod, and our mutual efforts to try and solve its issues... I came to find that the best way to execute this mod is via lua... and DisplayEx specifically. It works itself right in!

This new feature is a option called Disable GBC game filter.

What this does is, disable an extra white filter added specifically to GBC games. Since GB/GBC NSO ca...

CaVE v1.5 Beta Update

A new update to CaVE is now available. Build Date: 11/22/24 2:25:01 AM.

The latest GB v1.10.0.0 update is not available with older versions at this time, to encourage updating to this build.

Changelog:

  • Fixed the feature where default game art was not being generated with random colors as intended.

  • Addressed a longstanding issue with importing corrupted custom databases made with v1.4 and before, into v1.5. Now v1.5 will fix the d...

I'm happy to release my first project that is 100% exclusive to supporters, and not a mod!

New Subscriptions Enabled Again

I have re-enabled the "A Thank You" tier again. CaVE should be redownloaded again, only if you want automatic updates to work the next time you open CaVE. Otherwise there is no major change to the exe at this time and you can probably wait until the next NSO update.

New Subscriptions Have Currently Been Disabled

I had to delete files on my server that are needed for the CaVE Beta to function. I plan to address things in a new build, but until then... anyone that would download CaVE would find it to not have the latest NSO updates, and be functionally useless for their likely needs.

I do not want new supporters to encounter that, so I have disabled the ability for new supporters to join for the time being.

I am sorry for this inconvenience.

Automatic Updates Disabled

Until a new build is made, automatic updates have been disabled for the latest builds at the time of writing this.

This is a result of people distributing the CaVE application and DisplayEx mods freely online without my approval, and refusing to remove the stolen content. I cannot continue to support people who are using such files that were not intended for them.

In the future I will try to take steps to allow me to better address this when it happens, with minimal impact to you ...

CaVE 1.5 Beta Updated

This is a minor, but very needed update.

I added 2 new buttons that will sometimes show in the Mods tab.

Update v#.#.#.# will show when your database is currently using a older version of a mod than what it finds available in the mods folder.

NSOM Mismatch will show when your installed mod is simply different, for whatever reason, from the mod in the mods folder.

Clicking these updates the installed mod. These correct a oversight with the mod update system, as previous...

SGB Border Remakes

If you are like me, you grew up with the Super Gameboy. Sadly NSO Gameboy does not emulate the SGB and its unique/better color palettes, but we can try to get something of that experience back with these SGB borders! Now in 16x9!

If you have been wondering what the Fit to SGB Borders option was about in DisplayEx for Gameboy... this is it. These are scaled up to 1920x1080 without cropping or stretching that distorts the area of the original border content. As a result, the viewport does...

DisplayEx Tool, A Upcoming New Project

I'm pleased to finally be at the point where I feel more comfortable formally announcing this new project!

This tool will help users be able to make stunning background images for use with the DisplayEx mods (And SNES Classic too, technically). Each background you create will have a perfectly fitted viewport/window where the emulator output will display, while having whatever custom imagery you want in the left over space. The tool supports making the backgrounds for all different displ...

DisplayEx NES v6.9.0.0 Delay

I'm sorry this has not been released yet. I have been working on it... but its just being difficult.

I suppose now is a good time to talk about a annoying issue that crops up with these mods. I haven't been able to define it well, so have not been able to give it a real name or term. But I commonly refer to it as something like "The issue that makes no sense".

Why it makes no sense is a bit hard to explain. But it just breaks all logic of problem solving and debugging. Traditional...

CaVE v1.5.0.3, NSO N64 17+/18+, and GBA Updates

Nintendo just released a new app. NSO N64 MATURE 17+.

Since CaVE needs to be updated for that to be supported, I have to push a CaVE update out now. This update has all the changes mentioned in my previous post except the FTP and Google Sheet/Drive support. Most notable, the new Update Window.

The NSO N64 MATURE 17+ update is available, included with the rar, but the 18+ app and GB...

Sorry, Thank you, and General Update

First I need to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry for the v1.8 and v1.9 GB/GBC updates being late this last month. And I'm sorry that DisplayEx for GB NSO v1.9 is not working and released yet.

Out of nowhere one month ago... my internet connection went out. It's something I completely rely on. I have no cellphone service, as all I need is VOIP. So... I was COMPLETELY cut off from the internet. Due to various reasons, I couldn't simply "go elsewhere" to use the internet long enough to tell people...

NSO N64 v2.16 Update

Support for v2.16 of the NSO N64 app is available via the automatic update feature in CaVE.

DisplayEx for v2.16 is now available as well over on the downloads thread.

Without the latest version of DisplayEx, you will get stuck on the red loading screen. Thus this update to the mod is required if you have updated your app to v2.16.0.0/v1376256.

Future Mod Ideas

DisplayEx is a nice advanced mod. It has taken a bit of time and effort invested, and while not originally intended, I think that's worth it as a premium mod for the CaVE users that support the project the most. But it should not be the only advanced mod.

The theme mods were slated for being the next mod, and originally intended as the premium mod... but I have realized that they make more sense as part of DisplayEx and had to change my loose plans.

So I know I need more advanced ...

New CaVE Beta Update

It's been a while since I updated CaVE (outside of standard database updates)! I was enjoying taking a break from C# and working on CaVE itself, by instead diving more into LUA scripting and mod development.

That said, this CaVE update is in part the fruit of that labor. Yea, I addressed a few issues that piled up, but the main thing that instigated this update is a result of my Mod work.

CaVE now installs a Information mod. This mod is basically mandatory. It's not even listed in...
