Babylon 5 3x16 & 17 Reaction

Comments

Never change, Mega. Never change. You say "it's so good." We should make a reaction video reacting to your reactions. As Kenny, in Seinfeld would say, "That's gold, Jerry. Gold."

Tiago Esteves

Great Episodes! You're the first reactor I've seen that figured out Sinclair was Valen. I always wondered why they didn't steal the time stabilizer off of T'Lol the Janitor. That way if he shifted in time, he'd just be cleaning a future mess. 🤣

Thanks. I thought it was a nice touch.

I have to say I like how you seamlessly knit both episodes into one. Smooth!

Other than the name he was hard to forget.

I had hoped you recognized Zathras from Babylon 4 (Babylon Squared) when he first showed up in the episode.

I hate that you guessed Valen so early, but turns out it didn't ruin the reaction. But you're too smart for your own good!

JMS is the master, no one weaves a multi year thread like JMS. Class dismissed.

Solid episodes, as others mentioned in the top5, but personally not in the top3 for me ;) Loved your face all the way through, like the kid who asked for a toy and it turned out way better. We have now tied together all the prophecies and the flashes from the previous seasons and episodes. Some hints about the things to come. This is the official conclusion of the beginning of the story. Are you ready ?

Two things to think about: 1. If you so choose, the entire "Minbari souls in humans" thing can be explained without metaphysics or mysticism. The Minbari might not realize it, but the triluminary might simply be a human DNA detector. 2. Up until this point we've been seeing "prophesy" play out. Delenn and the Minbari have been given signs and clues of what is to come -- prophesy of Valen (and history to Sinclair). That ends now. We're on our own.

Man, these two episodes! I'm so happy you managed to watch them together, it's one of the rare cases where it's just a must. I have to say, this one was always one that I would look forward to during rewatches (or re-runs back in the day), but believe it or not there are actually better episodes still to come! Season 3 and season 4 are just incredible.

Here's the interesting thing, what Delenn shows the group on the White Star is essentially what the original plan was. Had O'Hare not left the show, it would have ended with B5 being destroyed in a major attack, with that one last shuttle escaping in the nick of time. This would then lead into a follow-up show that would begin with Sinclair and company completing the circle by going back in time, stealing Babylon 4 and bringing it forward to serve as the new base of the Army of Light. Here, JMS sneaks it in as ancient history, the Minbari's main base is destroyed and B4 arrived to take its place.

There are 11 canon novels: the 3 trilogies you mentioned, and two others ("To Dream..." being one), plus the comics and a few short stories. But to list them now, even just the titles, could be a spoiler. They're mostly fine to leave for after the series.

Fantastic reaction. So much emotion. Babylon 5 was my absolute top favourite sci-fi show for 20 years... But now it shares that spot with The Expanse. So looking forward to your continued reactions to both of these shows!

Not easy to hit the mark with the perfect episode continuity over 3 seasons. In season 1 most shows do not know where they are going ...

The way everything is tied up so we’ll still blows my mind these many years. If I’m recalling correctly there are only two obvious ret-cons from Babylon Squared - one is Zathras’s appearance (in Babylon Squared we are told he appeared in a flash of light), and the other is Delenn’s sleeve (in Babylon Squared she’s wearing something red with frilled cuffs). The fact that these are really the two things requiring adjustment given the TWO YEARS between those eps is mind-blowing. They got the original actors from B4’s staff back, they slotted the various continuity elements together, and they paid off Sinclair’s character development in spades. When I’m having a bad day, I will occasionally re-watch reactors’ first experience with these two eps. There’s something about the pure joy and satisfaction of it all that never fails to cheer me up. Also seconding the rec for the book To Dream In The City of Sorrows - it follows Sinclair on Minbar and wraps up the questions around his relationship with Catherine Sakai. Also, it’s written by JMS’s ex-wife who was also involved in the show, and - if I recall correctly - is one of ‘canon’ B5 tie-in books. The other canon ones are I believe the pre-series comics detailing Garibaldi and Sinclair on Mars, and the post-series Centauri Prime books. I can’t recall if the Psi Corps ones are canon or not but I hated them so I’ve decided they aren’t, and I haven’t read the Technomage ones, but - I’m off topic. My point is, To Dream… is a great book and canon, so if you are missing Sinclair and want that extra bit of his story, that’s where you’ll find it.
