Virgin River 2X6: Out of the Past

Okay, so Doc has finally come clean with Muriel about he and Hope being back together. She takes it well (at least when he tells her), but Hope was upset that he told her. He didn't like the fact that he was deceiving her and, believe it or not, Hope seemed to feel bad about it too. She ended up baking a pie for Muriel and bringing it over as an apology. Muriel gracefully accepts and Hope seems relieved. At least until she leaves and Muriel calls her back. She tells her that she knows she's gonna screw up the relationship again, and when she does, she'll be there to swoop in and grab him. Rude. (Not that Hope hasn't been super rude).

Hope is annoyed because Charmaine's dog keeps peeing on the carpet and eating her shoes. But, the good news is, Charmaine is doing much better and can finally move back into her house. This makes everyone happy. However, when Jack heads over to check on her later, we see her entire place is literally covered with baby stuff. She claims family, friends, and coworkers bought it all for her. And she said she knew it was bad luck, which makes me kind of nervous for the babies.

Jack, meanwhile, is busy trying to rouse his Marine buddies to go kayaking, but they are all exhausted and hungover. He manages to convince them though. But, when he gets up set up at a super dangerous spot, they all balk. They try to convince him to drop in somewhere safer, but he's insistent. Finally, they tell him they know he was drinking all night and it's not safe. They don't want to pull his dead body out of the river. He gets upset and leaves. Later, they all meet up at the bar for food and apologize. However, while they are leaving, they confide to Preacher that they are worried about him, and that he left his kayak down by the river. Preacher tells them he's trying to take care of him.

Mel finally decides how she wants to honor Mark's memory. She gets Hope and Doc to help her set up a mini sailboat and attach one of his shirts (I assume this was one of his shirts) to it and sail it gently down the river. Apparently, he wanted to do nothing but sail 24/7 with Mel when they were able to retire. It's a really sweet moment and it shows how far she, Doc, and Hope have come since she's been here.

However, while they are leaving, she gets a call from Preacher and racing over to the part of the river where Jack is. Apparently, he's still planning to kayak down these insane rapids. Mel tries to talk him out of it, and when that doesn't work, she tells him she's going with him. If it's safe enough for a father to be of two, it's safe enough for her. That seems to snap him out of it and he stands down. He tells her about the kid he lost in the service and is worried that if he can't keep a grown man alive, how will he keep two helpless babies alive. Well, for starters, the two babies will not be getting shot at constantly, so, you know, there's that. Mel talks him down and they simply hang out and rest together for awhile.

Elsewhere, Lizzie's got Ricky shirking his responsibilities at the bar. She's telling him that Jack is just taking advantage of him (hello, that's you, sweetheart) and he should stand up and do what he wants. And apparently, what he wants, is to take her shopping and follow her around all day. Fun. However, when she feeds him some candy, she tells him he's blushing and when he looks in the mirror to check, it seems like they get into an accident. It cuts to black, so I can't be sure, but it certainly seems like an accident.

And, at the end of the episode, as Mel and Jack are walking home through the woods, they run into the sheriff who told them some hikers had found a body. Unless either Lizzie or Ricky flew through the windshield of the car and the other drove away and left them there, my money's on it being Wes. I don't think Preacher got rid of that body as well as he thought he did.
