The Fosters 4X5: Forty

Okay, so we had a bit of a lower drama episode this time around and that's just fine with me. Things have been insane lately, it was nice to take a bit of a break (not that we didn't have our fair share of it, but none of it was life or death this episode).

Lena is turning 40 and we're throwing her a 70s party (and the costumes, hair, and make up are awesome). He parents are in town for the event, but they aren't getting along well at all. Her mom told Lena that her dad is having an affair. I didn't buy it. (I just didn't seem like him), and it turns out, he's not. However, he is deeply in debt and it turns out they might lose the house. (And by 'they' I thought he meant Stef and Lena's house, but it's just as possible that he actually meant his and Dana's house). He owes the IRS and is trying to find a way out of it, but it doesn't look great.

Stef decides (via stealing the idea from Lena's dad) that they should have a video tribute of sorts for Lena. She tries to recruit Mariana to help, but she's busy (with Emma and some other coding girl) to make a robot. So, she tries Jude. He's never done it, but Taylor tells them that Noah can come and teach him. And he does. The two of them are getting along, when Taylor sees that Connor is back in town and has brought his new boyfriend with him. In order to make him jealous, Jude puts a picture of him and Noah on FaceBook and changes his status to 'in a relationship.' When Noah finds out, he's not thrilled. He has zero interest in being on social media. Plus, if Jude wants to use him to make Connor jealous, he should at least ask him out for dinner first.

Meanwhile, Callie is busy trying to get Kyle a new trial. She and Aaron go to visit him in juvie and he tells them he was at the rec center when the lady was murdered. He also tells them who the witness was that can give him an alibi. So, they head over to talk to him. But, unfortunately, he claims that Kyle wasn't there that day. Callie is disappointment, but Aaron tells her there are still some other things he can do. Later, he shows up at the house with the police interviews of the guy they spoke to earlier. And, when this occurred, he told the cops that Kyle was at the center with him. But now he's changed his story. Why?

AJ pops over to see what's going on and Callie introduces them. AJ immediately seems a little threatened (he walked into Callie hugging him in gratitude). Then, Aaron leaves and two head back outside and Callie almost immediately receives a text from Aaron of a cartoon her dancing at the party. And AJ is definitely jealous. So this is gonna be a thing, I guess.

Elsewhere, Brandon is trying to earn extra money to help Courtney pay for her divorce and the bills from the apartment. When Stef shows up at the apartment to invite Courtney to the party, she sees a check that Brandon wrote to her for $5000. And she's not thrilled about it. Back at the party, she uses it as the reason she doesn't like Courtney right now. And Dana, who maybe is a little drunk and already upset and angry, tells Courtney to her face that she thinks she's using her grandson to pay her bills. (Oh, and he also took the SAT for someone else since they paid him $1000). This relationship is just too much for Brandon if you ask me.

Mariana and Emma have decided to try to build a robot so they can lead the school at some coding competition. They (along with Jesus) come up with a unique concept for their robot. And it beats all the other robots, but the class still doesn't vote for him. However, the teacher decides they should have and declares them the winners. Huzzah! Over at the party, Emma tells Jesus she'll be happy to tutor him for the SATs and he takes offense to that, thinking she finds him stupid. So, he calls off their FWB situation. She's confused. But, shortly after, Mariana suggests he join their coding club since he was the one who came up with the idea for the robot to pick up the block. I love this. Especially after he was just in a situation where he didn't feel super smart.

Oh, and Mike and Ana have decided that they are in love. Cool.
