The Originals 1X5: Sinners and Saints

Can you guys tell me when Sophie had that conversation with Davina's BFF's mom? I cannot tell if it was before she started working with our friends or after. Did she know the entire time she was trying to kill Davina? Or did she find out after she heard the story in this episode (like we did). I'm confused on this.

Okay, so Klaus is pissed about what happened with Hayley and he asks Sophie if she had anything to do with it. She promises she wasn't involved and tells him about a subsect of witches who are very hardcore and extreme. She claims that the witches who attacked Hayley from this faction.

She tells about the Harvest where a bunch of witches held a ritual where they chose 4 young witches in which to participate. They spent months honing the rite. Sophie that it was all bullshit and protested, but claimed she didn't really believe in it. But apparently, every 300 or so years, in order to keep their ancestral magic, they need to sacrifice 4 young witches.

Meanwhile, we get a fuller story from Davina. Marcel has been stalling Klaus and Rebekah so he can move Davina as he no longer thinks she's safe where she is. Too many people know the location. While he's chatting it up with Klaus, Davina is spilling the tea to Elijah.

Here's how it plays out. She was chose along with her BFF and two other witches to partake in this ritual. They are informed it is a great honor and their parents are super proud. During the practicing for it, they are told they get pricked on the palm with a dagger and they fall into some kind of death limbo. When all the witches are in the limbo, they will be restored to full health. And their magic will replenish (I think I got that right).

However, on the day of the ritual, instead of pricking with with daggers, they slit the girls' throats, killing them. After the first girl dies, there is chaos among the other three. Begging and fighting not to take part in the ritual. The second girl is killed fairly quickly as well. Davina's BFF manages to get a little bit away from the elder witch, but then is killed by her mother who slits her throat. Davina, the last to go is freaking the fuck out (obviously). And then, Marcel and some vampires show up and save her. (Apparently Marcel has a thing about harming children. If you'll remember he wasn't treated all that well as a child himself.)

Now, the witches all want her dead so they can complete the ritual. But, Davina doesn't really believe she (or any of the others) will come back to life after the ritual. So she refuses to participate. And if she doesn't, eventually, the witches's magic will dissipate. So her plan is just to wait them out. And when Davina didn't die, she got all the power of the other dead witches, making her more powerful than she should be.

Elijah tries to make a deal with her. He'll give her his mother's spell books that will help her control her magic, and she'll come with him. Elijah assures her that she can trust him. He'll keep her safe. And I'm pretty sure she believes him too. I'm not 100% sure she's going, but it seems like if she trusts anyone, it's Elijah.

And speaking of trusting Elijah, once he's finally back at the house with Klaus, Rebekah, and Hayley, I'm not sure Hayley still does. He rushes his greeting to Rebekah so he can go check on Hayley and the first thing she does is slap him. I think that's because she does trust him though. If she didn't, she wouldn't be so upset about the fact that he didn't come back. (Not that it's his fault that Klaus daggered him and sent him to Marcel, though).
