the Vampire Diaries 3x8 Reaction

OMG you sound just like me when I 1st watched these shows. I love it. :)

I love this episode for many reasons. First, because of the writers, they don’t just drop on us the rules of this universe, but they give us explanations of how those rules came about, explanation that is perfectly logical, organic to the story. That is why any other vampire show after this had to deal with the lore of this show because they give us such great explanation on how the vampire came into existence. Even the hint that there was in America an advance civilization of people that where regularly crossing over from Europe in the glacial era, is genial since the recent archaeological discoveries totally back off this narrative. Is the fact that the story is backed off with some reality and that the explanations we are given feels natural and commonsensical, makes this show on another level to any other show where we, as an audience, are expected to just accept what we are given and accept it, without explaining us why, without motivation or back story. Not in TVD, every rule f the lore, every action of a character, every motivation, it is explained and is consistent with a back story, with what happen to the characters’ life and their psychological traumas and their actions are consistent with a real psychological profile, that is why the characters of this show are so relatable and you are so emotionally invested in their story, because even though it’s a fantasy story the emotional and psychological ground on which they move is very factual, authentic and very solid, everybody is the hero of their own story and the story is wri8tten to change your prospective on how you look at people different from you, at people that made mistakes, at “monsters” and soliciting compassion, urge you not to judge people hastily. Second, it is the love that the Salvatore brothers share. The real love story of the show is the one between Damon and Stefan. Damon couldn’t leave his little brother to rot in a cell, he knows what Stefan’s needs, the loving and tender care of his big brother, kicking his ass if necessary but doing it because their relationship runs deeper than anything else, and even this will be explained over the seasons wonderfully. As a big brother, he is the only one that can bring Stefan back. Even Elena realise that. Stefan is like stubborn child, that needs to hear from his the big brother/parent, a non judgemental life lesson, that he should stop with the self-righteous act, because is not sustainable and cause him to fall over the edge spectacularly and because, after, when he inevitably comes back from it, he had to deal with the guilt of not living to that ridiculous high moral standards he judges himself and the people around him by, he had to start to be self aware, accept his imperfection and just be. Third is the last scene between Damon and Elena acting like a married couple, telling each other how their day went, pulling the bed cover from Damon that respectfully don’t let her, staying on the top of it and the fact that Elena doesn’t kick him out of her room but so naturally fell asleep with him beside her, in her bed while Damon look at her with all his defences down, showing the depth of his love for her. What an adorably written scene.

Ohhh I was waiting for this episode! I am such a sucker for the flashbacks. Especially when it involves and revolves around the original family! Here you got your first glimpse of Klaus's past. He wasn't always so vicious and evil. I loved the scene between Elijah and him, having a fun, little sword-fight only for Mikael to ruin the moment. Poor Niklaus. He truly feared (and still does) his father. Like you said, it would be logical for Klaus to be stronger than Mikael now that he has unlocked his werewolf side and is a full-fledged Hybrid. But I think the fear of his father that Niklaus developed from such a young age might play a part in that. But those were just my own musings when I was at that point in the storyline. Who knows, maybe the story takes us somewhere completely different and Mikael is infact much stronger than Klaus :) Btw I love your love for Elijah, even though he's been laying daggered in a box for quite a while now. He's just such a likeable character. (Always and forever my favorite character of the whole TVD-Universe, though Niklaus is not far behind :D ) As always, loved your reaction and your enthusiasm. Never fails to make me smile! :) See you on the next episode.
