Dead Inside

Greetings Deathlings! 

Today's video is about Cotard's syndrome AKA "walking corpse syndrome".  I know some of you know what this is as over the years many of you have requested that I do a video on it. 

Well, ask and eight years later you shall receive! 

This video was tricky. How do you talk about a rare and mysterious (and seemingly unfathomable) delusion that makes a person think they are the walking dead, without sounding dismissive or mocking, while ALSO being "entertaining"? 

Y'all, we went through so many versions of this video. I'm really glad we did it, but who would have thought a 12-minute video that isn't about cannibalism would be so time consuming? (All our cannibalism videos are in the AAM hall of fame for hours spent editing...and sighing...)

And if nothing else, I hope you all go out right away and read Esmé Weijun Wang's book or essays. She is one of those annoyingly excellent writers who is also exceptionally cool. 

OMG she's so cool.

*A quick, but important clarification: If you clicked on this post from your email, the subject probably read, "Caitlin Doughty's new patron-only video". This is not a patron-only video; this is a video that was released to the public. When we release patron-only videos we will explicitly state in the video info and in the video post that it is a "Patron Exclusive" video. Patreon recently changed the way Patrons-only video posts (i.e. these nifty messages that are delivered to your inbox) are released via email – automatically adding that "patron-only video" line to the subject, even if that's not the case. But that's not how we (and a lot of other creators) do things. So, sorry for the confusion! I hope this cleared things up! We're working on fixing this with Patreon.
