I wanna say I didn't love this episode (and I didn't), but I really loved Ricky's storyline this episode. And his song was beautiful, so that might have made up for the rest of it. Plus, I also really liked Gina's stuff too. But, I could have done without the rest of it. Also, not really a fan of the song Nini an Ashlyn wrote.
But, either way, it's Spring Break (Is Spring Break capitalized? I'm not gonna look it up) and Miss Jenn seems super bored so she wants to Zoom with the kids a bunch. Ricky is with his mom in Chicago trying to mend his broken heart, and Gina is stuck at the airport trying to get to Louisiana (which I guess is where her mom currently is.
Ricky spends the first several days of his visit with his mom, burritoed up in bed. He doesn't wanna talk, or eat. Eventually, he has a bit of a conversation with her and she tells him that making something might help. So, he starts to write a song. (Did we know he could play piano?) And it's really good. I again, applaud whoever does the song writing on this show. I'm pretty sure I teared up when he called his mom in (who was already listening near the door) to come and hear it.
Gina, meanwhile, is trapped at the airport. She tries to pretend to be French to get on a flight, but the gate agent reminds her she just heard her speaking without a French accent, so it's a no go. But, she bumps into a guy who is also stuck at the airport. He tells her his dad is a pilot so he spends a lot of time in airports. They end up getting pretty friendly. It's really nice to see Gina let her guard down a little bit.
They end up playing Two Truths and a Lie and we find out that Gina's never been kissed. Sad. Airport Boy offers to be her first, but she claims she wants it to be a guy who sticks around. He's sweet, but he's no E.J. And speaking of E.J., when it becomes clear that she won't be getting a flight that night, her mom convinces her to go home and come back so she doesn't have to sleep at the airport. And when E.J. sees her Insta story, he drives over to pick her up so she doesn't have to Uber home. Come on. Can these two just get together already?
The rest of the club is busy trying to retaliate from a diss video that North High left. Apparently, it's silly to have an actual Spring Break and not be in the school the whole time working. Whatever. So Nini and Ashlyn write a song about how they are still awesome. Basically. I didn't love it. The visuals of it were fun though.
I'll be happier next week when we're (hopefully) all back together.
