9-1-1 8X11: Holy Mother of God

Okay, so I loved all the Buck stuff in this episode, but I wasn't really into any of the Bobby stuff. I just had a hard time feeling anything for this woman, as we just met her. I'm sorry that Bobby is sad, but I wasn't.

Also, it's crazy how much of a presence Eddie still leaves, even when he's not around. We should have done shots for every time Bobby said, 'Buck and Eddie,' instead of 'Buck and Ravi.' Plus, Buck doesn't even want to sleep in his own house (well, Eddie's) so he's been crashing at Maddie and Chim's. Finally, Maddie suggests he try to make a new friend, so he decides to elevate Ravi from co-worker, to friend.

They end up at a bar. Buck is pretty drunk and cannot shut up about Eddie. It's just story after story about how great he is or what a great time Buck has when he's with him. Eventually, Ravi gets fed up and goes to the bar for a beer where he runs into Tommy who he is thrilled to shove at Buck and run away.

After some small talk about Maddie and the 118, Buck mentions that Eddie has moved back to Texas. And that's all it takes for Tommy to want to get back into Buck's pants. Apparently, he'd been sure that Buck was in love with Eddie (which is part of why he pulled away in the first place) and now that his competition is out of the way, he wants back in. Buck is shocked that he thinks he loves Eddie though. He responds basically by saying 'Eddie is straight, and that he doesn't need to sleep with everyone he has feelings for.' That's not much of a denial.

Later, he ends up talking to Maddie about it (who also questions whether or not he's in love with Eddie- but he has a bit of a stronger denial this time) and she ends up telling him he needs to be okay with being alone (I do not have that issue. Lol). So, he heads back to Eddie's place and decides it's time to redecorate. Also, I'm sure it means something that the first time Buck was able to sleep in Eddie's house was when he brought Tommy home with him.

And, Bobby's mom is alive (but dying) they don't get along super well. We also meet his brother, who seems nice enough. But, I'm hopeful that this is the last time we'll be seeing them. I just don't care.

can you believe the show finally brought up buck’s obvious feelings for eddie?! i’m still surprised by it in the best way. literally everyone can see it. buck is clinging to eddie being straight to protect himself but you know if eddie ever reveals he isn’t, buck would buckle in a nanosecond. it’s so interesting that this is the episode they chose to finally address it because they made so many insane choices in it. they had buck constantly talking about him. he said his name 15 times! and they had bobby repeatedly say “buck and eddie” when eddie has been gone before and he didn’t do it then. also they made sure to have tommy point out that eddie stopped talking to him after he and buck broke up. it all feels very intentional. and yep ravi was first introduced in s4 when he said the q word during jinx so he’s been around 4 years. he’s just missing a lot because he usually covers b shift instead of a shift. hoping for more of him though he’s adorable. yeah the bobby’s mom plot wasn’t great. peter’s acting was as always but i’m so sick of this show making these characters forgive terrible parents. it’s my least favorite thing about it.

tim minear already said that wasn’t the show shutting buddie down, it was buck trying to shut it down in the moment. it’s like you’ve never watched tv before. characters always deny their feelings before they end up with the person. tommy himself scoffed at the idea of eddie being straight. oliver said he wants a slow burn will they won’t they and sorry but bucktommy who kissed and got together an episode after they met don’t apply. oliver has already said buck doesn’t actually want to get back together with him and tim said tommy is in buck’s romantic past. they also both said buck was just using tommy as a distraction because he was in pain and didn’t want to be alone (which buck also admitted). hell tim said buck isn’t in love with tommy and they were both using each other when they hooked up and that buck didn’t even bother to call him to apologize. we’re not the ones making things up here. and eddie isn’t going anywhere as much as y’all seem to want that because you think it’ll benefit your ship. it’s weird that lou being a trump supporting, racist creep who takes photos of women in the gym doesn’t put you off tommy and yet ryan puts you off eddie. is it because he’s white? i think if you aren’t able to separate actor from character, you won’t be able to enjoy most film or television.

Tommy having insecurity about Buck’s brotherly bond with his best friend leading him to misinterpreting it as something more is really not that deep. For all we know he was in love with a close friend in his past which is clouding his judgement when he sees buck and Eddies friendship being as strong as it is. The show is clearly doing a classic will they/won’t they angst trope for Buck and Tommy (Something that Oliver said is one of his favourite things to have in tv relationships so he must be loving his storyline right now) and honestly the misunderstanding on Tommy’s part regarding Buck and Eddie is a plot point that is still easy enough to resolve but with typical angsty points in it, caused by Buck having the issue of not thinking before he speaks and not saying what he means in he clearest way which doesn’t help with Tommy’s insecurity. Buck saying that he doesn’t have to sleep with everyone he has feelings for is 100% a denial, platonic love is a thing. Buck has feelings for Bobby, Chim, Hen, Eddie etc but he doesn’t have to sleep with any of the because there is more than one way to have feelings for someone. Once Buck is able to clear things up with Tommy that what he meant was that just because he has love for his friend, as most people do… platonic love is perfectly normal, doesn’t mean he has to sleep with him, their relationship can get back on track and we can really get to get more depth to their relationship which will be fun. honestly Tommy is the best partner he's had, Abby kind of used buck to occupy herself to help cope with the stress of her mums condition. Allie and buck just weren't all that compatible. Taylor would often promise things to buck but then would go behind his back and report on things she promised were off record, there's nothing wrong with being all in on your career but going behind his back all the time was disrespectful. Tommy sees and respects buck for who he is, I love their relationship. When buck said he is not in love with Eddie in the conversation with Maddie he meant it, so the need to continue to force that fanfic trope into the show makes no sense. And lets be real the reason that scene with Maddie happened is the shows way of directly telling Buddies it isn’t happening. Maddie asking buck if he was in love with Eddie was basically Maddie representing Buddies and Buck stating exceptionally clearly “no” was supposed to be the show putting a nail in the coffin on that notion. The show has Specifically stated Eddie is straight The show has specifically stated Buck is not in love with his best friend/brother Ryan has specifically stated multiple times he doesn’t see his character as queer/that Eddie is straight Oliver has specifically stated he doesn’t want to portray the stereotype of a queer person being secretly in love with their best friend You want to have Buddie happen in fanfiction? Fine, rewriting characters and storylines to create your own dream storylines is what fanfiction is for, but it has to be left at that. The number of Buddies who over the years have seemingly not understood that fanfiction and the show itself are two very different entities is mind blowing, never mind the way they abuse people who just accept the show for what is it that the show is showing us and not buying in to their fanfiction version of the show. Or how they send the same harassment, abuse and death threats to actors on the show for “getting in the way” of their, let’s be real heavily fetishised, fanfic ship. In the last year they have even sunk as low as writing CSA fics, some of them just portraying tommy as a predator, some of them gay men in general as predators. It’s no wonder the show had to have some moment for a character to ask Buck that so it can get shut down clearly on the show. Why on earth would the show want to reward the disgusting behaviours that Buddies have shown for years, especially as they are only ever getting worse. 9-1-1 isn’t some complex piece of drama that needs to be analysed multiple times to understand some hidden subplot, it’s a simple procedural where what you see is what it is. And the show has made it abundantly clear, Eddie is straight and Buck is not in love with Eddie. I kind of hope Eddie never comes back, his character has been stale for the last few seasons and hasn't ever had any true character growth, he's boring. plus Ryan is an awful person which doesn't help, it really puts me off seeing him on screen. Also it might be the only way to get the aggressive Buddies to accept reality that Buddie only exists in fanfics and not on the show. if the characters and the actors explicitly saying it ain't happening isn't getting through to people maybe having Eddie never come back will make it click for people. And then maybe the 9-1-1 fandom can lose the exreme toxicity that has been rampant ever since buddies starting being vile to anyone who doesn't see their fanfic as anything more than that. Sorry for the really long comment…
