High School Musical: The Musical: The Series 1X2: The Read-Through

So, we've got our first read-through, which seems to go terribly. However, I'm not sure if that's just because Red Hair doesn't know how to read well, or if it's uncomfortable because of this love triangle we've got going on.

Either way, as they are practicing, Ricky can't seem to get any of the dancing down. And Nini ends up yelling at him, telling him he's taking the place of someone who actually wants to be in the show. After all, Ricky only tried out to win her back and get the chance to be around her all the time.

Ricky then decides he should quit, since if he keeps the part, Nini will probably just quit anyway and a) she's much better than him and play needs her more, and b) he's making things much worse between the two of them. Gina (Nini's understudy hears this) and convinces Ricky to stay in the show. You know, so Nini will quit and Gina will get her part.

So, Ricky puts in actual effort trying to learn the dance scenes, and when Nini sees that he's trying, seems to appreciate the work he put in. He show his new moves to the choreographer who is impressed.

E.J., however, is not impressed. He's worried and jealous about Nini and Ricky being so close together. He's convinced that he are texted and ends up asking his cousin, Ashley (?) to steal Nini's phone for him. She refuses. But later, Nini and Ashley end up at the piano together (playing and singing what I think is a beautiful song- are these actors all doing their own singing?). Nini happens to mention that to E.J., so when E.J. finds Nini's phone in his bag, he assumes Ashley was responsible.

Turns out, it was Gina. She tells E.J. that they both want the same thing and should work together. Which isn't really true, right? Gina wants to be Gabriella, and E.J. wants to be Troy (but so he can be the Troy to Nini's Gabriella's, not just to be Troy, right?) So they have two different goals here that really don't mesh. Unless I'm misunderstanding this.

Oh, and it turns out, it was one of Nini's mom's who has been messaging her, not Ricky. Just FYI.

Also, is Chad the guy who who was always dancing with Sharpey in the movie?

Plus, I'm such a pro shipper. And I'm sad that I don't ship anyone right now. 🤣
