The Fosters 1X9: Vigil

Ugh. I cried so much during this episode.

So, we pick up exactly where we left off last episode, except we actually get to see what happens in the house this time. Stef and Mike going through the rooms and looking for Jesus (or anyone else, I guess). Stef and Mike are in different rooms, when he hears a gunshot go off in the room Stef is in. He rushes in and finds her on the ground, as she's been shot in the abdomen. He shoots the boyfriend who is standing across the room. Like, three times, he's way dead. Stef is trying to talk to him, but he shushes her while he calls for an ambulance.

Meanwhile, Lena finds out that Jesus is not at the house, he's downtown trying to get Ana into a shelter. (And giving her the money for a toothbrush that Mariana told him she would ask for). On her way out to pick him up, Lena calls Stef to tell her that Jesus is safe. Once they get Jesus, Mike calls and they all head to the hospital. Callie and Brandon are back at the house when officers show up to take them to the hospital.

Now, we're all just sitting around waiting to hear. Stef is in critical condition and they need to do surgery to remove bullet fragments that could migrate to her spinal column. And if that happens, she could end up paralyzed.

While we're waiting, everyone is upset. Obviously. Brandon blames the twins telling them it's their fault for bringing Ana and her boyfriend into their lives. And they aren't really his siblings anyway. Callie talks him down and makes him walk away. And then, Brandon finds out that Mike is drinking right now. He can smell the booze on him. Lena tells an unconscious Stef that she doesn't know how to forgive the twins.

Mike and Stef's boss shows up at the hospital trying to figure out what happened. Mike is adamant it was all done by the book, but he gives his statement anyway. As soon as Stef is awake, they take her as well. She claimed she doesn't remember anything until she got in the ambulance. Later, their boss tells Mike everything checked out and they might get a one or two day suspension at most. But he really needs to get the drinking under control.

But then, we're told that Ana was in the house when this happened and now we have a potential witness. Apparently, Ana climbed out the bathroom window and ran to meet Jesus at the shelter. The problem now is whether she'll contradict Mike and Stef's story. Mike is confident that she won't because he 100% believes what he told was the truth. (And I don't fault him for doing what he did. I think he made the best decision he could with the information he had at the time). But, we find out that Stef wasn't actually shot by the boyfriend. She was shot by the gun falling to the floor and going off. It's seems that's what she was going to tell Mike about. So, if Ana saw that, I don't know what happens now.

Wyatt, who is here for Callie, tells her that he knows she has a thing for Brandon. And it's okay with him. And it should be okay with her too. He gets that foster siblings can't have any sexual contact, but this isn't her permanent home and as soon as she leaves, they can be together. Callie excitedly runs into the hospital to tell Brandon, but of course, Talya is there with him and she disappointedly heads in the other direction.

Once Stef is awake and able to talk, she asks Lena to marry her.

Also, we get a bunch of flashbacks this episode to Stef and Lena meeting and Stef and Mike breaking up.

Plus, Mike seems to take Brandon telling him to fuck off to heart, as he finds himself an AA meeting.
