Okay, so I think this was my favorite episode so far. Honestly, I feel like each episode has been better than the previous one.
So, we pick up right where we left off with Genek getting arrested for not putting the fact that he was Polish on his lease. Herta refuses to let him go without her, so they get arrested together.
They spend weeks on a train with a bunch of other people who have been arrested. It seems like they get water, but not really food. They are all packed in there like cattle. When any of them die, they just open the doors and kick them outside. Of course, Herta is pregnant, so that makes things much worse.
Finally, they end up in Siberia, like 2000 kilometers from Lvov, and end up in a labor camp. Genek is upset with the working conditions (I mean, how could you not be), and asks to speak to the person in charge. They of course fuck him over (and fuck him up), and he ends up with less privileges (if you can even call them that) then he had before the conversation.
During said conversation, Herta goes into labor. Previously, the pharmacist, the closest person to a medical professional and the guy who delivered the babies, died after an amputation from frostbite, and Herta ends up with a seamstress delivering her baby. It does not look good. She hemorrhaging terribly, but eventually, she has a baby boy and both are as healthy as they can be in these conditions.
Meanwhile, Addy has managed to get on the ship to Brazil. Because he can play the piano, he gets to mingle with the first class passengers, and ends up taking a liking to a woman named Eliska. Later, as they lounge on the deck, they realize the ship is going in the wrong direction. Turns out, they can no longer get to Rio, and have been docked for quite some time now. Addy and the first class passengers are allowed off the ship, but everyone else is forced to stay on.
Eventually, everyone gets kicked off the ship. As they depart, Eliska goes to the right and they send Addy to the left. He tries to tell them he's with her, but it turns out, only people who can afford private transport are able to continue on. He And Eliska are separated and Addy ends up on a bus. I have no idea where he's going to end up.
Back in Lvov, Halina is involved in the resistance and has taken to swiping things from the lab she works at in order to help Adam forge documents. Despite him being concerned that she's being too bold about it, things seem to be going well. However, after she has a conversation with the doctor about not knowing where Genek is (remember they were just yanked out in the middle of the night and ended up in Siberia), he seems less inclined to trust her. He claims he must have done something wrong. They don't just take people for no reason. The next day, soldiers show up to take Halina away. I assume she's getting arrested, but we've got no definitive proof.
Ugh.I hate that we're almost halfway over. I realize this is a limited series, but it just adds to my annoyance that shows are too short right now!
