Alright, so, I'm not entirely sure what's happening, but I think that Alaric's ring is the same one that Samatha Gilbert had back in 1912. And I think it's causing him to have the same insanity that she had. It really does seem like maybe he's the serial killer right now. Although, why psycho nurse would help him, I have no idea.
We start with Alaric in jail (although, I thought he was just coming back to life proving that Meredith is supernatural) and him pleading his case to Liz that he's not the serial killer, but honestly, he doesn't really seem that sure. She doesn't have any evidence of anything, so in jail he stays.
Damon tries to get Stefan to hang out and bond with him. Stefan thinks it's because his BFF (Alaric) is in jail so he has no one to hang out with. While they are drinking at the Grill (and Damon is trying to convince Stefan to start drinking blood again), Rebekah shows up trying to grill them for information about the white oak tree. They answer some stuff, but mostly seem annoyed that she is there.
Elena and Matt break into Meredith's apartment looking for evidence of Alaric's innocence and find both a Gilbert journal, and a report that claims the time of death for one of the murders was wrong, which clears Alaric. However, Meredith catches them and they end up in the police station. They confront Liz with the evidence they found, and she tells them that Meredith already brought her that info and apologized.
Back on the bar, Damon, with the help of Rebekah, gets Stefan to finally feed. But of course, it's at the worst possible moment. As soon as he's finished, he turned around and is face to face with Elena who looks horrified. But it turns out, Damon was really doing it for both their sakes. It turns out, back in 1912, Damon convinced Stefan to feed on humans again and it immediately turned him in the Ripper. He's desperately trying not to make Stefan into a monster again. Also, without Stefan, he's alone and he doesn't want that either. So, he's committed to figuring out how to help Stefan moderate his bloodlust.
At the Gilbert house, Elena is thrilled when Alaric is released. But she's been reading the Gilbert journal and has some concerns. Then, Meredith shows up and Alaric is not pleased, but she convinces him to let her in. It turns out, she's convinced he's the murder, but wants to help him through it. And, after reading the journal, it turns out Elena is convinced as well. Plus, over at the boarding house, the brothers also come up with the fact that Alaric's ring was passed down to him from Jonathan Gilbert's grand daughter (who wrote the journal Elena is reading, was a serial killer, and sort of went crazy). So it's the ring? Can we assume that Bonnie can fix it?
Also, am I mistaken, or did Elena admit to Matt that she loves both Salvatore brothers? I guess she could have meant she loved Stefan and cared about Damon, but I prefer to read it the other way. Lol. Plus, I know I said I didn't love the brothers switching back to their original personalities, but I don't know if I hate it as much anymore.
