The Vampire Diaries 2X12: The Descent

So, it looks like it's true. A bite from a werewolf really does kill a vampire. While Rose heals at first, she ends up taking a turn for the worse later. And it's horribly painful. And she's sick, and weak, and hallucinating. She ends up trying to attack Elena more than once because she thinks she's Katherine. It's not a good situation.

But, we do get Damon really trying to tend to and comfort her in her last moments. He sends Elena away and gives her a beautiful dream to send her off in the best way possible. While she's happily frolicking in her dream, he stabs her to take away her pain as quickly as possible. I swear to god, I would watch a show that was literally only Damon dealing with his existentialism. Between him and Caroline, my favorite characters are rapidly shifting. Lol.

Stefan is busy looking for Isobel who might have some answers for how to deal with Elijah. But he hits a dead end. However, he does manage to find John. (To be honest, I cannot remember how we last left things with him. I remember he's Elena's dad, and that he and Isobel don't want her hanging around the Salvatores. And I think Katherine tricked him into thinking she was Elena, but I cannot for the life of me, remember how we ended things with him.) But I don't know how he's going to help.

Meanwhile, Caroline is being pursued by both Matt and Tyler. Poor girl. She's just trying to help Tyler out, but he's totally reading into it. And she told Matt she loves him, but he doesn't know the truth. I don't think there's a happy ending for them. Why is everyone kissing her this episode? 🤣

And speaking of Tyler, Jules has gotten to him. She's starting to fill his head with werewolf stuff that is counteracting what Caroline has told him. Specifically that she's the only vampire around. And she said a bunch of other vampires were on the way. That's probably not good. Is this season gonna end in a vampire/werewolf war?

At the end of the episode, Elena shows back up to see if Damon is okay. He tells her that he's fine and doesn't feel anything. She knows he's lying and tries to tell him that she cares when people she loves are upset. He blows her off. Then he goes and torments a girl whose car he lies down in front of. When she gets out to help him, he unloads all his problems onto her. He tells he he can't be what Elena needs him to be. And tells her she free to go. Then he chases her and feeds on her. (Is this symbolic of Rose talking about how the hunting and preying are the best part?)

And her death was kind of beautiful. I'm loving Damon's existential crisis right now.
