The Vampire Diaries 2X5: Kill or Be Killed

So, Katherine really did put all this in motion, didn't she? That said, I have no idea why. But she's totally behind this.

After Damon trying to kill him last episode, Mason isn't so thrilled to see Stefan asking for a truce. When he refuses, Stefan tells him that there are two of them and only one of him. Plus, he's only strong on a full moon, so he should back the fuck off. Mason agrees as long as Damon doesn't do anything. They shake on it. Damon then shows up and asks Stefan if he really things that's gonna keep Mason away. They both agree that Mason will kill them if given the chance.

Shortly after this, Mason tells the sheriff that both Salvatore brothers are vampires. She doesn't believe him, as Damon is one of her most trusted allies, but Mason says he can prove it. Turns out, he spiked the lemonade with vervain, and the sheriff watches as Damon chokes on it and knows that it's true. Stefan and Damon assume it's Mason's doing and follow him in order to kill him. However, once they are 'alone' with him, both get shot with wooden bullets and injected with vervain. The sheriff takes them down to where Mason's been chaining himself up. Mason leaves and the sheriff starts asking questions. Everyone not answered is another shot. Damon hasn't said anything, but above ground, Caroline is suspicious. She hears her mom interrogating and shooting Damon and she and Elena run to their aid, but Caroline balks at the last minute, as if she goes down, her mom will know she's a vampire.

By the time Elena gets down the stairs, Caroline has changed her mind and races into the quarters. Before her mom knows it's her, she starts shooting at her, but she uses one of the other deputies as a shield. Eventually, both deputies are dead and both she and Damon drink from them. Stefan, who is finally awake, refuses. But he's much weaker than Damon due to his lack of people blood. Caroline begs her mom not to tell anyone that she is a vampire. She's pleads with her. They decide to keep her in the basement cell of the house until the vervain is out of her system and then Damon will compel her and all will be well again. But, Mason still knows. What's to keep him from telling her over and over?

Anyway, Stefan decides that maybe it would be a good idea to start microdosing human blood. He doesn't think there is any chance he'll be strong enough to protect Elena from Katherine as he is. Elena is horrified at first, remembering what he was like when he was last consuming human blood. But he assures her this will be different. She decides to be a willing participant and gives him her blood to feed on. He takes only a small amount, and everything sort of seems okay.

I don't know. Is this why Katherine actually came back? To get this moonstone? I mean, it's true that she could have come back for that, but also be in love with Stefan still. Ack! It's so hard when Katherine is so manipulative. You never know for sure what is the truth!
