One Tree Hill 7X9: Now You Lift Your Eyes to the Sun

Oh, this episode was rough. I'm super concerned about Brooke and Julian. And I don't think any of this is either of their fault. And the ending with Naley. And whatever the hell is going on with Millie. Oof. No one is having a good time right now.

So, Brooke is basically at her breaking point with Julian and Alex working together. But, he's just told her the script is done and he won't be seeing her much anymore. Brooke is thrilled with this info. Alex, not so much. She's desperate to continue to find ways to work with him no matter how many times they are finished. Meanwhile, Brooke thinks she's pregnant and is thrilled, but heartbroken when she finds out she isn't. She's devastated that she's never the one who gets the guy or and family. Brooke broke me this episode.

Meanwhile, after Julian telling her he's done with Alex, she calls him and tells him she found coke in her luggage and he needs to come over or she'll do it. He can't really say no (which I get), but Brooke is pissed (which I only get). He spends most of the night in Alex's hotel room trying to talk her down. Eventually, she decides she's gonna dump the coke, but the vial is empty leading Julian to the conclusion that she faked all this to get to spend more time with him. She swears she didn't, but he doesn't believe her. We then cut to a scene of Millie doing the coke. (WTH Millie? Who are you?)

Haley ends up doing a live show to help promote her album that's not finished yet. It's pretty much a smash hit, and everyone loved it. Plus the record lady loved it, so that's the important thing, I guess.

The Bobcats have offered Nathan a two year deal, but Clay tells Nathan to trust him and he'll get him at least three, if not four. Nathan is a little concerned about turning down a sure deal, but Clay tells him to trust him, he knows what he's doing. During Haley's show, he tells Nathan that it's just a rumor, but he's hearing good things. However, at the end of the night, when Nathan and Haley get home, they see on the news that the Bobcats have signed someone else, leaving Nathan without a job.

Clay, meanwhile, has been spending a ton of time with Quinn (not that he hasn't been working to try to get Nathan a deal), and I don't think knows any of this yet. It seems crazy that Nathan would find out this info from the news and not from Clay. But I'm not in the entertainment or sports industry, so maybe it's more common than I think.

And Dan and Rachel are back. Nathan tells Dan that they will never have a relationship again, but he will tolerate his presence for Jamie's sake. But stop trying to make amends because when Keith died, so did their relationship. Rachel goes to see Mouth, who tells her to go talk to Brooke. She does, and brings with her a check to cover what she stole back when she was using. Brooke rips it up and slaps her in the face. You guys probably don't need to guess how I felt about that. Brooke rules and Rachel drools.

But seriously, I just feel horrible for both Brooke and Julian right now. They are both in such shitty situations. There was no way Julian could not go to Alex. If she OD'd it would be on his conscious forever. But she's totally manipulating him. I don't think she means to, but she is all the same. And Brooke, there is no way for her not to be acting like a jealous girlfriend right now, but Alex has shown time and time again that she wants Julian, so I don't think her anger is unjustified.

And I so agree about this storyline featuring a regressing Brooke whose jealous and insecure all the time, and it's not my favorite to watch either. And while we all know how much Lucas and Peyton messed her up in high school, we really don't need to continue to see it anymore. Especially all these years later, with all of time jumps that have already occurred on the show, it makes no sense for a mid 20's something Brooke to still be stuck back in her high school mindset. And good observation about Brooke seeming like a side character in this story featuring Julian and Alex. I kinda always felt like that as well!!!

Yes....this episode featured a ton of stuff, as there are lots of moving parts and setting things up. While I'm sad for Brooke and yes, she has lots going on, I don't like this storyline for her regarding Julian, and Alex because it puts Brooke right back in that insecure, and jealous mode, and it's regressing for her character. I thought we were past all of that, and in my opinion, it's getting old constantly rehashing how much Lucas hurt her in high school, as the reasons for why she continues to have trust issues. Despite the difficult situation that Julian has found himself in with wanting to help Alex, he hasn't really done anything wrong for Brooke to react in the way that she has. Of course, she wouldn't be happy and thrilled that they are spending time together, but Julian has always been honest and upfront with Brooke about him and Alex working together, and now him running off to help her. Brooke expects the worst too much of the time regarding her relationships. Hopefully she can work through that!!!! Love that we got to see Haley sing again, yay!!!! Joy rocked it as usual, and did you see Nathan's reaction when Haley first took the stage, and James shouted out a big "yay" to Joy when he was sitting at the bar, hehe. Love the JL's and their unscripted magic together. And how funny was their lines after Haley's performance and Nathan gives Haley a bouquet of their purple flowers and then they notice Dan there, and Haley says that he looks like "the healthiest looking dying man", lol, and Nathan replies back with "I guess evil does a body good", lol. Those two slay me always, hehe. So damn funny!!! I always enjoy Nathan and Dan together, and Dan wanting redemption, and a relationship with Nathan is nothing new, but it will be interesting to see if Nathan ever softens his stance regarding his father, or will he always have his guard up where he's concerned? As he told him, he'll tolerate him for Jamie because he knows that Jamie loves his Grandpa Dan, but that he's dead to him...ouch indeed. And Millie is a mess, Rachel is a mess, and Dan's relationship with everyone is a mess, lol, and now thanks to Clay....Nathan's contract is a mess, and he appears to be out of a job. Naley had peace of mind for just a minute when they got home from Tric, and were about to get their sexy on, and as Nathan turned on their tv to unwind from their evening for a minute...he hears the breaking news that the Bobcats signed another player, not him, and now he's out of a job. And had all this gone down the right way...Nathan would have known from Clay first, but since it's all a bungled mess, Nathan found out from the local news and SportsCenter first.... yikes indeed!!!! Naley are so going to be pissed for a variety of reasons!!!! Stay tuned...it's about to get turned up to eleven in Tree Hill, lol!!!

Melissa

Clay definitely screwed up real big with Nathan's contract, and this doesn't seem good at all. He got aggressive and didn't listen to what Nathan wanted first and foremost and that was to stay close to home and play for the Bobcats. An agent's main priority is to his client, so this is going to be a tough lesson for Clay to learn it would appear!!!!

Melissa

It is crazy that Clay doesn't know about Nathan and that Nathan found out that he's out of a job from the news. He's his agent and not being a very good one atm.

Sabrina

I hated this storyline for Brooke! She's regressed from season's 5 and 6 and we're back in high school where she's jealous and insecure. Not my favorite Brooke. Lucas and Peyton kinda messed her up. Even if it is understandable do we need to see it again? It also felt like this was Julian's storyline and she was just a side character. She deserves better.
