9-1-1 5X12: Boston

We've finally got Maddie and Chim back! But I feel like this was a weird episode. It did not feel like an episode of 9-1-1 at all. BUT, we 100% needed this episode. And I certainly enjoyed it (I mean, as much as you can when you cry through most of it), but it still felt like an odd episode of this show.

We back up 6 months and see Maddie dropping Jee-Yun off at the firehouse. Then she drives to the coast and tries to drown herself in the ocean. She finds her way to Boston and gets herself some help. She gets therapy and hooks up with a woman who is also unable to see her child. However, she was court ordered to stay away and help help since she got a DUI with the kid in the car. She thinks Maddie had a similar situation. Especially after Maddie tells her that Chim hates her now.

After a bunch of time goes by, Maddie feels like she's ready to go home and thanks the therapy group, but Kim (I'm calling her Kim, I can't remember her name) is super snarky to her about it. After the group, Maddie confronts her and finds out she's drunk. And that she has a supervised visitation with her kid that day. Maddie rushes her to the hospital to try to get her sober enough to show up for it. However, when the get to the hospital, they see posters Chim has put on the board (yeah, he's here in Boston looking for Maddie, thanks to Buck and his bells), and Kim realizes, she and Maddie are not the same. She runs from the hospital.

Maddie tries to find her, but she gets lost in the St. Patrick's Day parade. Maddie calls her repeatedly and asks bar workers to look out for her. Eventually, someone calls her and says they found her. Maddie rushes to the bar, but Kim is aspirating, so they call 9-1-1. And who should show up? Chim! (He's working as a volunteer paramedic while looking for Maddie). They do not have the world's best reunion, but it's not awful either. They've both just got stuff to do.

Once Kim is safely at the hospital, Maddie and Chim have a chance to talk. They both feel like what happened is there fault, and vow that they are going to stop keep their feelings hidden from each other. Chim brings Jee over to Maddie's place and she's fussy. But when Maddie sings to her, Jee remembers her and calls her Mama. It's kind of beautiful.

As much as we needed this episode, I really hope we get back to business as usual (you know, with Chim back on the team now that we are coming home- but what does that mean for Jonah?).
