The Vampire Diaries 1X22: Founder's Day

OMG. This season finale was pretty much perfect. But, to be fair, the entire second half of this season was amazing.

The big news is that the anti-vampire group got intel that the tomb vampires would be attacking the founding families during the fireworks. So, they plan to use the device at that time. However, the sheriff thinks it's too dangerous with all their family members out right now, so John knocks her unconscious and handcuffs her to a drawer (or whatever).

Anna shows up and tells Damon what the plan is. She doesn't agree with the revenge and is trying to get him to help her to save the vampires. He goes to Alaric, believing the device will not work, and asks for his help to save the people from the vampires. Then, he goes to John who unleashes the device and Damon (and the rest of the vampires- plus the mayor and Tyler- are all incapacitated).

The group runs around and injects the people in pain with vervain and drags them to a warehouse where John intends to burn them. This includes both Anna, and Damon, but not Stefan, Alaric helped him escape in the chaos.

In the basement, John throws lighter fluid on everything and prepares to set the vampires on fire. However, when he sees Anna, he stakes her instead. I assume this is to end her suffering quickly because she's important to Jeremy. Or maybe because she's important to Jeremy he wanted to make sure she died so she couldn't be with him? But I kind of think it's the former. Both the mayor and Damon wake up, and the mayor is like, what are you doing here? And Damon's like, I'm a vampire, what's your excuse? He tries to backpedal away from Damon and ends up on top of another vampire who breaks his neck and kills him.

Meanwhile, Stefan and Elena rush to the basement to try to save Damon. John stops them and Elena begs him to let her through because she's his daughter. He obliges, but most likely because he doesn't think it's possible to save Damon. When they get there, the fire has overtaken everything and Stefan doesn't know what to do. But Bonnie shows up and does a spell which puts out the flames long enough for Stefan to run in and grab Damon.

Also, Tyler, Matt, and Caroline are in a car fleeing the parade, when Tyler ends up with one of the headaches and crashes the car. (Like father, like son; but son lives). He's not a vampire, and my money is werewolf. Both he and his father. Anyway, as he's being checked out and they notice his eyes peculiar, Caroline ends up passing out and they rush to her. Turns out she's got some internal bleeding and is in the hospital.

Once things have died down, Damon shows up to talk to Jeremy (who is still pissed at Elena after her read her diary) and tells him Anna is dead, and asks him if he wants him to take his pain away again. Jeremy says no, also asks if it's easier to deal with pain as a vampire, and Damon tells him it is. Afterwards, he goes and drinks the blood Anna gave him earlier, and takes a bottle of Elena's pain pills and tries to go to sleep.

Elena (as far as we know) walks up to the house as Damon is leaving. They chat about the day and Damon thanks for saving him. They end up kissing (which is way hotter than her and Stefan's kisses) until Jenna opens the door and interrupts them. (I was so happy when I thought this was real). 'Elena' heads into the kitchen where John is. He tries to explain what happened with Isobel. He asks if there is anything he can do to make it up to her. She says yes, cuts his fingers off, making his ring useless, (at this point he and we realize it's Katherine, not Elena) and stabs him in the stomach. I don't know if he actually died. We'll see next episode, I guess. But where is Jenna is all this? We know she's home. She opened the door to find fake Elena kissing Damon.

Almost immediately after, real Elena comes home to check on Jeremy and we basically end with her entering the house.

I'm sorry. Where the hell are we going from here? Katherine is here! (I feel stupid for not realizing this earlier). Kissing Damon! (Does Damon know it's Katherine?) Is Jeremy gonna become a vampire? (My money's on no). Is Caroline gonna live? (My money's on yes- too many of you like her as a character for her to die in S1). What does Jenna think happened here? How is Elena gonna explain this?

I don't watch this again for 6 days!!!! I know those of you who had to wait a several months in real time are crying big crocodile tears for me right now. But this is why we binge things! So we don't have to wait!!! Ahhhh!
