Outlander 4X11: If Not For Hope

Aunt Jocasta must me having Claire flashbacks with Brianna in the house. She is as direct and outspoken as her mother. She wants nothing to do with all this matchmaking. From her point of view, she already has a husband.

Anyway, lots of not so lovely men are vying for her hand, and she doesn't want any of it. In the morning, her servant (who may or my not be called Ephedra) tells her excitedly that one of the men is set to propose. Brianna is horrified and asked her to fetch Lord John (oh yeah, he's here) and have him meet her. She tells him everything and asks if he'll marry her. At least he knows the truth, and she knows he's a good man. He repeatedly tells her no, but eventually gives in and says he'll marry her. Mostly to keep her safe. (Plus, she knows he's gay as she saw him having sex with a man earlier- let's just skip all the blackmail that she claimed she wasn't actually going to do, shall we?)

Meanwhile, Murtagh and Fergus manage to capture Stephen Bonnet, but they are caught as well and since Murtagh is a wanted man, he ends up getting arrested along with Bonnet. Furgus, however, escapes.

Oh, and Roger didn't go back through the stones, he stayed and got recaptured. I so don't care about him.

We do get the tiniest bit of Claire and Jamie. He tries to apologize, but she says she's not angry at him. She's just upset about everything that happening right now. They make up and we get one, lovely scene. People, I thought this was the Claire and Jaime show. Help me out!

Same! I cringed so hard at that. I mean I'm glad he helped Claire find Jamie, but that is the extent of my caring for his character. Roger is no Jamie. Tbh, Roger never stood a chance. Jamie is a hard act to follow. But damn he could at least be likeable. He's too boring, bland and underwhelming to like. Jamie and Claire are such great characters it's really hard for me when they are not the focus of an epi.

Very true. And how is Roger somehow more sexist most of the time than Jamie, who is from the 1700s? I think I never forgave him for that whole sex fight they had at the festival. But he never did much to earn my forgiveness either

Roger is so boring and he makes Brianna boring. Jamie and Claire's daughter deserves better. I hate when epis are centered around them.

Heather

As a person who also doesn’t care at all about Roger, I agree. Sorry but he is such a boring character. More Fergus and less Roger
