Dude. This opposing team is huge. No wonder they are undefeated. Are we sure they are actually in high school? Being down almost 30 points at the half is crushing. But it did get Matt in the game. And between him and Riggins we came so close. It was definitely unrealistic, but I didn't care. It what I wanted to see, let's be honest. And Eric's speech after the game was lovely.
In other non football news, Tami and Eric call Child Protective Services on J.D.'s dad, which leads to his parents (and J.D. himself) lashing out at them. They try to explain that by law they had to do it, but they don't care. And J.D., who told Eric last episode that he didn't want to go back to that house with Joe anymore, is also pissed. I understand that there is a difference between saying something to blow off steam and actually meaning it, but I was a bit surprised by this.
Lyla is going to San Antonio State with Riggins rather than Vanderbilt. I think partially because she can't afford Vanderbilt anymore, and partially because she wants to be with Tim. Does two make a pattern here? She was also planning to go to school wherever Jason went when she was dating him as well.
Tyra's college essay is terrible, and Landry is (no surprise here) trying to help her with it. It's a nice moment for her character, but I don't think this essay is going to help her get into college.
And Matt is thinking about going to art school in Chicago, which grandma doesn't love. She can't understand why Matt would ever leave her. And certainly not with his mom. They've had the occasional moments together, but grandma is just not warming up to her.
