The 100 2X16: Blood Must Have Blood, Part Two

I really didn't expect them to go with the nuclear option. But, I suppose the options they did have were slim. But Maya and the children did not deserve this.

Oh, that was some sweet justice Lincoln got there with Cage. Honestly, I was concerned he might end up injecting himself with the red. I'm so glad that it did not turn out that way. I was also, maybe a little too gleeful about this. Lol.

We're kind of splintered off now. Clarke is taking off unable to deal with her guilt, Jaha is at some mansion with hologram people, and Murphy is in the lighthouse.

I get why Clarke feels like this, but her going off on her own is going to make things worse, I'd imagine. The hologram lady is grateful that Jaha brought her a nuclear warhead. Where is that going? And I'm super curious about that recording that Murphy's watching. Is this what started everything?

Ah, I'm so glad we're doing another season. There are so many unanswered questions right now!

Totally agree. The stakes were so high, as were my expectations. And both were completely satisfied. I LOVE Octavia. Somewhere along the way she became one of my favorite characters. Yeah, poor Level 5. I know! I'd been saying for episodes that they could negotiate for voluntary bone marrow in exchange for supplies or whatever the Sky People needed. I hate that it ended up coming to that. I really think there was a way around that had we acted earlier, but in the moment, it was kind of the only option. Sigh. Huh. I did not put it together that Clarke did that again. I'm glad you pointed it out though. I do like that this time, she wasn't alone in it though. Either way, it's a fucked up situation to be in. I've taken a Communications Ethics class were we worked on the trolly issue, and I hated it. I feel like the obvious answer is kill only one person, but you're still making the conscious choice to kill someone! Holy shit. I didn't even think about the how much time they would have saved if they'd just let one person die from the drilling while they thought about if they should kill the entire mountain. Ugh. That sort of makes me sick in retrospect. I mean, I keep saying 'you've got to make hard decisions in this environment,' but I don't think I was really wrapping my head around what that really meant. But like you said, I really like that every decision they make, you can make a compelling argument for why they chose it. Nothing is done at random, even if it seems callous at the time. Since I made her and Bellamy pulling the lever together the thumbnail, you can probably guess how I felt about that. But I didn't really think about Monty's role in all this. In hindsight, it seems obvious, but at the time I put this mostly on Clarke, with Bellamy backing her up. And Monty not even in the conversation. Ugh. I feel pretty bad about that now. I'm hoping next season Clarke ends up reuniting with someone (I don't even care who at this point- well not Lexa), I feel like her being alone with what she did is gonna be a bad situation.

Such a good season finale. I could say so much but I also don't like to give anything away or set expectations so I'm just going to comment on some of the little things. It was so weird to see Octavia in Mount Weather because she really did look like an "outsider" and it always reminds me of how far she's come. It also hits for me when she and Lincoln walk into the camp holding hands and they look so different to everyone else. I loved what Bellamy said to Clarke at the end of the episode about forgivness cause it's word for word what she said to him in S1 when she was trying to convince him not to leave before the Ark came down. It made me chuckle too that your commentary was basically the same in both instances lol. It's so sad that eradicating level 5 ended up being what they had to do. Like by the time we made it to this point in the war, the majority of the people on that floor were probably innocent and would have tried to help had they known what was going on. And like Kane offered, a deal could have been struck to donate marrow. The reason they had to kill the kids for the 8 doses per person was because there weren't enough people for non-lethal donation but if you include all of the sky people, it would have been enough. The simple, sad fact of it is that none of this needed to happen. It was all preventable- until it wasn't anymore. Another thing I liked about this finale is that it was about pulling another lever. Clarke pulled one in S1 to make the ring of fire that killed all the grounders and this time she and Bellamy pulled another. It reminds me of the trolley problem where each time is more extreme and takes on more personal/moral responsibility for the deaths. If you don't know about it, you should definitely google it. The first time Clarke pulled the lever they were under imminent physical attack, she didn't have to watch them burn/die, and the people killed were warriors, not civilians. This time though, while people were being drilled and they were low on options, resources, and help, technically speaking, they had time. It wasn't as imminent as grounders attacking with weapons where death was immediate. It would take them about 2 hours to kill someone with bone marrow extraction. It's super messed up to say cause those 2 hours are torture but it's a decent chunk of time that would allow you to consider all your options and come up with a plan that potentially doesn't kill everyone but in that moment it deifnitely felt like the walls were closing in way faster than that. Then of course, this time the people she killed were civilians, kids, and innocents, and she had to watch them die painful deaths. I just really enjoy that it's basically the trolley problem especially cause this show is thematically so much about ethics and morals. With every decision you can see how they got there and debate whether it was right or wrong. I could get into a whole long thing about the connection to the trolley problem and the complexity of the war with Mount Weather but I'll spare you lol. Last thing on the genocide of Mount Weather, I do appreciate that Bellamy pulled It with her. I know that it probably feels like it falls more on her than him because it was her idea and she was running the command center but I love seeing that leadership bond still. What's also interesting is, as the viewer, I think we see it more as Clarke's choice but Bellamy and Monte were there too. Monte made it possible for Clarke to do it and Bellamy agreed and helped in the decision. They just philosophically pulled a different lever. (I swear that made sense if you get the trolley problem lol). So much for not going on too much lol. Can't wait for the next season!
