One Tree Hill 5X1: 4 Years, 6 Months, 2 Days

So we did end up skipping over all of college. I think that totally fixes my issue about how Haley and Nathan were raise James while at college.

This episode was not super fun to watch. Having to see Nathan and Haley not getting along, and him going through this, and all our friends scattered about, makes it feel like a different show. Thankfully, it seems like we're all in the same place by the end of the episode.

Brooke getting everything she wanted, but still not being happy. Peyton struggling with making what she loves her work. Luke not being able to write a follow up novel. Mouth being unemployed. Nathan not being able to play basketball. Everything sort of sucked this episode.

Is it just me, or do we think Luke bought that ring for Peyton, not this editor girlfriend? (Don't tell me!) I really wanna know what happened there.

Also Lucas and Skills are gonna the coach and assistant coach. I guess that means no more Whitey. Sigh.

I wasn't paying attention to the credits, so I have no idea who our series regulars are now. I'm actually really looking forward to watching next episode. It's gonna be like a surprise!

Oh good...so glad you still enjoyed the episode, even with the gang separated and having lost touch with each other, except for NHJ and Lucas. By the end though.... both Brooke and Peyton were on their way back home to Tree Hill....so I think you'll enjoy the flow of the show much better now. And yes...it's supposed to feel like a brand-new show, not the same one you were used to with the high school years. So no....you're not crazy to think that, lol. And that's funny that you noticed that both James and Joy look the part of Naley being 4 years older and parents to a little boy now, as opposed to some of the other characters who obviously aren't in that same role. I hadn't really ever thought about that before...so that's an interesting observation. Thanks for pointing that out. It's so going to make me pay more attention to the rest of the gang now, lol. My radar is usually only ever up where Naley are concerned because they are my absolute favorite......and they so look the part, but I never realized that the others don't quite register the same though. I think Lucas does for sure.... but like I said, I'm totally going to have to pay attention to the others now, lol. And yes......just you wait and see what kind of character James Lucas Scott is.... you're in for a real treat. I have no doubt that he'll be the kid that totally changes your mind about children on television, hehe. And yep.... just know that the new Naley house is indeed the house from the flashback, and they are living comfortably now as a family financially. So, they've already come so far!!!

I didn't dislike it, as an episode, I was just upset that our friends were all apart! Both Joy and James like they are four years older and have four more years of experience. I'm not sure I could say the same for the rest of the cast yet. Oh, good. So I'm not crazy thinking this seemed like a new show. Not a show I don't want to watch, but definitely different than the show I've been watching. Yeah, it was totally Lucas' quote that made me guess they were skipping time. Which I think was a really good decision for the show, actually. I'm generally not a fan of kids on TV, but I have to say, this kid might be an exception. I love how everyone seems to just seamlessly fit him into their lives. Oh, I so didn't realize that this was the house from the flashback. I thought that house was much smaller than the house they were in. Whoops. And I was wondering that, thank you! That's why I guessed they were living in Deb's house. I'm so curious to see where we all go from here!

I hope you still enjoyed the S5 premiere, even though.... yes, it is sad to watch Naley's marriage and family life so fractured right now because of Nathan's demeanor and depression after his accident. It's implied that they had the ideal family life up until this point. I will say that as sad as this storyline is...James and Joy absolutely knock it out of the park, and their acting is phenomenal and deserves to be commended during this stretch. You can still feel the immense love they have for one another, but things are just so broken between them. Now you know why they indeed did the time jump over the college years, so they could reunite all the characters back home in Tree Hill. Shows like OTH typically fail going to college, so OTH wanted to eliminate that possibility and jump right into their adult lives. Plus, the actors wanted to play closer to their real ages, and the writers and producers wanted to be inspired again by having some mystery and intrigue during those missing 4 years to play around with, so they always said that S5 was like a brand-new pilot with characters the audience was already familiar with. And good job guessing that the jump ahead was a possibility, lol. Lucas did hint at it with his quote at the end of 4x21 when he said that in 4 years, they'd all be right back here, friends forever. And if you were wondering why Nathan didn't ever get a haircut during all of S4, it was because James had to have it long for this storyline in S5....so everybody had been prepping for it for a long time, lol. It was the worst kept secret when the show was filming, hehe. They spilled the beans to the fans early on during S4, and right after the S4 finale aired......The CW ran a promo for S5 saying to stay tuned for what happens 4 years later when OTH comes back in January. They purposely held it for 7 months to allow for some time to pass to help get the audience used to the jump ahead, and I always thought it was a pretty seamless transition that I think you're really going to love. And you can see that little James Lucas Scott is everybody's little buddy and he fits in so well with the gang. They all love an adore him and look out for him. It's adorable and so cute, and he'll absolutely melt your heart. He is Naley's kid after all, so I have no doubt that you'll love the biggest extension of Naley as well. And just wait until you see the acting chops of little Jackson. Boy are you going to be impressed and enamored with his ability. And I think someone already mentioned it...but Naley's new house they are living in is the new house they were looking at during the NHJ flashback scene when Nathan and Jamie were both telling Haley that they should get the house in Tree Hill, lol. It was bought with Nathan's shoe contract money, so it was implied that Nathan already had several endorsements that he was cashing in on, despite not having played in the league yet. Just wanted to point it out, in case you were wondering how/and why Naley were now living comfortably financially and not broken high school teenagers anymore.

Also, a heads up the β€œblack One Tree Hill screen” is the new intro. Hahah

Jamie Sawyer

I figured it was safe since not spoilers! Haha

I did not realize Brooke was in NYC. I guess all the billboards near Peyton messed me up. Thank you! Oh, I so didn't realize that. But it totally makes sense. Thank you! Please, always answer my questions! (Unless I specifically ask you not to- which I do a lot. Lol.).

Dana Licciardello

Peyton was in LA and Brooke in NY. Nathan and Haley are living in the house that they were contemplating on buying in that flashback. Just trying to answer some of your questions! πŸ˜„

Ali M

season 5!!

heather

I wanna say me, most of all. But as I was thinking about it after the fact, I kinda though it might be a thing, after their discussion at the end of the last episode.

Dana Licciardello

No one expected this time jump 😭

C. J. Ramirez

Oh, I love that! I'm so happy, it's not just automatically gonna be a sad season. I'm super excited to see what's in store this season.

Dana Licciardello

I love season 5 so much :) It is really like a new chapter. In this episode, we are reunited with characters we know very well, but it also feels like long-lost friends.

Alex

Thank you! I totally missed that. I think I was focused on other stuff.

Dana Licciardello

Nathan's accident was 4 months prior, so he's been like this for awhile. Haley said this when Lucas said she had to push him.

Heather

I know! I love it!

Dana Licciardello

So excited to watch later 😊

Ali M

They call James "Jamie," so we have another Jamie. 😊

Heather

Oh, we're not going anywhere. I care too much about these people. I know that once we hit adulthood, everyone is much too busy to hang out everyday. So I don't need that, but I would be sad if they weren't at least staying in contact!

Dana Licciardello

It was especially good after I'd settled on my decision that I thought it was Lucas and then it turned out to be Brooke.

Dana Licciardello

Yeah this is definitely a new era of the show. It takes a little getting used to, but just give it some time. I actually like the adult years way more than the high school years. Once the storylines settle in, it is really good

sandrinegeller

I love that is was Brooke who Peyton was calling and that they came home together.
