Kathy was the Lady Esther's 'apprentice' in Just one favor and is meant to work along with a group of familiar faces who... because of the conditions can't make an appearance.
While at the same time, we see Roland come to realize how their options suddenly become non viable forcing him to grasp at straws to formulate a plan to still come on top.
