Panel 1 of page 9 was probably the most intensive 3D space I've put together so far, despite looking like, WELL, mostly negative space.
I found this (FREE!) hallway asset of a police office or school that I've found really helpful because it's a large geometric stage that ALSO has a variety of corners!! So it's been repurposed for a few different things now haha. Also appearing is that one desk I keep using for every flat door, shelf, and flat surface— re-appearing as gurneys this time!
I tried to do a bunch of environmental storytelling while we were in this space, about Hale and about the abandoned space he's been inhabiting. I'm fond of his neat piles of trash and Running Every Electronic Off One Power Strip; I'd like to think you get a bit of understanding of the kind of person he is. ALSO, it turns out rendering checkered floors is a lot easier to do when using 3d models! Big plus! I'm happy with how the damaged linoleum came out.
While coloring this scene I thought a lot about the original Matrix movie where everything "within" the matrix was tinted very green and it made the whole world feel very sterile and clinical. As someone who shies away from the color green a lot while creating palettes, I thought it would be a cool thing to try out! (it wound up being very teal, which is close!! I'm working my way up to proper green!) The one thing in this world that really pops out of this space is Cameron, with his bright hair and bright jacket and saturated gold magical energy. He can't be held back by things like LIGHTING and PALETTE 🔥
