Not much to say in detail about this one - I just had the idea of the pose between the two main characters and then, once I'd worked that out, realised I could expand the scene by adding the two handmaidens. And then, it just felt right to include a crowd watching whatever is going on.
Working out where the tubes coil and what connects to what took a few attempts to get right, with the final tubes being added at the very end of the painting when it felt the main participants' masks didn't look quite right without them.
Enjoyed designing the costumes for the crowd - might have to go a bit more outlandish on the designs in my new few paintings, concentrate on characters rather than complex scenes, see where that goes...
