The English Mansion Triptych - Progress & Update

Hey guys

I hope you are all happy and well.  Just dropping you an update on this monster painting as I'm past the halfway point now, and figured you deserved to see how things are getting on, as you're all being so patient.

I also had a few days' vacation last weekend that meant lots of free time for me, but was so packed with activities with my family that getting chance to sit down and paint was a little limited.

I'm pleased to report things are more normal and over this weekend the painting has progressed now to the point where all six lovely ladies are rendered and it's time to switch to the helpless boys in the scene.  As you no doubt know from my other WIPs I'll constantly tweak and refine the painting as the scene comes together, but I'm pleased so far with the results - all six ladies likenesses are down and their outfits are all painted.

This, as you know is counter to my usual back-to-front approach on most paintings, but with this one, Ms Sidonia and the rest of her ladies' likenesses were the most important thing to get right, so I chose a different plan of attack.  I also tried to mix up the order in which I painted everything as I went along as I didn't want any particular one of the ladies to get an inferior treatment as it's so easy when you're racing to the end to get a little lazy and skip ahead.  Hopefully the results may prove whether I resisted that temptation or not.

Now it's all painting of latex, then the background then the lighting pass to pull everything together.

AND NOW AN UPDATE

I've been chatting to Ms Sidonia about the painting and I'm pleased to say that she's happy with how the painting is turning out.  So much so that she'd like to reveal the painting on her blog, timing it with her plans towards the end of November.

So, I'm going to respect this and hold off publishing the completed piece until that date.

As always, you'll get the reveal of the final piece first, but what I think I'm going to do is give you guys an update like this of the remaining steps of the painting right up to that final crucial step.  Then, come end of November, reveal the final painting to you in-line with Ms Sidonia's schedule.

Still firming up the details on this - I have had the thought of revealing the piece one section at a time on Instagram, as it is three paintings side-by-side and then revealing the complete panorama after that.  Again, no firm plans yet but that's an idea that was bubbling up until I spoke to Ms Sidonia today.

So, alive and well and still painting.
