Medusa - Process
Added 2022-03-07 09:36:26 +0000 UTCMedusa was a fast and fun piece to work on - once I'd got the background to where I was happy with it, it was time to devote myself to painting the main subject.
This is the first time I've painted full nudity before so turned out to be an interesting balance of just enough anatomy, smooth skin and getting enough colour variation within her skin tone to feel natural.
My original intention for the piece (how I'd imagined her the very first time) was for her to be fully masked but didn't want to pass up the opportunity to practice painting a full face.
Thankfully because digital painting gives me layers to work with towards the end I worked out a look that worked with both the mask on and off, as well as last-minute playing with the option of a full body suit.
And of course, because not all platforms are equal, I'd separated off the prosthetic pieces/created latex pasties, etc to switch on and off as appropriate to allow myself to post something Instagram-friendly.
So, all-in-all a surprisingly fun piece to paint that gave me an unexpected journey of exploring options I hadn't originally thought of.
