I'm working back-to-front on the current piece and was struck by the stories I'm telling in the background of the piece - they're not the focus of the painting and will likely be a little obscured by the water in the tank but I had so much fun painting them I thought I'd share. Maybe I'll visit their stories later some time.
I'm finding that I'm putting more into the background by way of challenging myself - I'm not content with simply painting a character on their own, I want to challenge myself by putting them in context with a fully painted background...and what's a background if it doesn't have other characters in it?
Here's the current progression from linework through flats, to background and background characters - time now to metaphorically dive into the tank and paint our main subjects.
